Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

That's a big'un! Here's a photo of mine that holds them at a slant. Now, these are 30-pin SIMMs, and so wouldn't be suitable for an LC III, but they also made ones for 72-pin SIMMs as well. (These particular ones are "SimmSaver/30" modules, loaded with four 256k SIMMs each.)

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

There were a number of ram expander cards that let you re-use smaller ram simms in a single slot by combining them together. Check eBay, there were a number of them in various shapes and sizes, both branded and un-branded. Avoid MicroMac "SimmDoubler" cards, not because they're expensive on ebay...

Andes SATA to SCSI Enclosure (Mountain Secure Systems)

Just discovered this company, Mountain Secure Systems, that produces a line of SATA-to-SCSI enclosures for legacy systems, the "Andes Series SCSI Interface to SATA Conversion". There is not any obvious way to purchase just a single unit, or even to see how much they are, so I doubt they'd be...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I have the soldering experience to be able to do something along the lines of JeffC's solution, but forgive my ignorance, is it not possible to simply remove the original processor and install a socket for the accelerator, or is it required as a sort of pass-through to the logic board? I do know...

Still hoping for a Plus version I can pop my 16MHz 68HC000 into. :)

Kennect Rapport & Drive 2.4 Troubleshooting

Whelp, unfortunately, the replacement crystal did not solve the problem. It exhibits the same symptoms as before (including the connected Drive 2.4 ejecting an inserted diskette on a cold boot). So I guess it's just fancy decoration unless someone happens to have a working Rapport to compare...

Kennect Rapport & Drive 2.4 Troubleshooting

On a lark, I added additional solder to the main connector of the Rapport (it was very undersoldered in my opinion), but to no avail. Meanwhile, there's a crystal oscillator that should measure 16MHz, but with my meter on frequency mode I turned on the Plus with the naked Rapport connected and...

Kennect Rapport & Drive 2.4 Troubleshooting

Experiment 2: When connected directly to the floppy port of the Mac (meaning, the Rapport is not used at all), the Drive 2.4 does not eject an inserted diskette at boot, seemingly indicating that it only receives power through the Rapport...

Kennect Rapport & Drive 2.4 Troubleshooting

Well, a clue perhaps: With everything connected (Rapport & Drive 2.4), if a floppy happens to be inserted in the Drive 2.4, it will eject it when powering on the Mac for the first time, but not on subsequent restarts. The Rapport is still not being seen, but this indicates that: power is...

Do you mean the two wires coming off the side? That's just flux residue.

It has special proprietary formats for putting 1.2MB on 800k disks, and 2.4MB on 1.4MB disks. I have no plans to use them however.

Kennect Rapport & Drive 2.4 Troubleshooting

It would be handy to have for reading/writing PC-DOS 720k floppies, as well as Mac & PC 1.44MB floppies on the Plus, but only if it works...

Kennect Rapport & Drive 2.4 Troubleshooting

Feeling a bit gutted at the moment... After negotiating a very reasonable price with the seller, I was excited to receive a Kennect Rapport paired with the Kennect Drive 2.4 for use with my Mac Plus. The packaging took a big fall at some point in transit between Alaska and California, but the...

Got a picture of it outside the box? :D Interesting that it specifies the SE, is the foot profile different with the SE from the earlier compact Macs?
