    Software-only OVERCLOCK for LC475, LC575, Quadra 605

A lot more work, but might it be possible to work backwards through the firmware? Find the references to the known register in the LC475 firmware. Identify the surrounding code, used to set clock speed. Then search for similar code in the Q/LC/P 630 firmware and then look at which register...

TwiSlot PCI Riser and ComSlot2 NIC repro in widened CS riser form factor

Kind of you. I think regular work outs is the way forward. I'm used to being able to step out the door and just run 4 miles without giving it a lot of thought, so current condition is weird, but perhaps inevitable given weight gain, age and intense sedentary desk jobs. When I was much...

TwiSlot PCI Riser and ComSlot2 NIC repro in widened CS riser form factor

Still in yard work mode, although when I posted that in Sept. I wasn't getting a lot done. Did more a few weeks ago until we settled into deep freeze for a week. I've been weak for a couple of years. Don't know if I convalesced too long after lung pudding/covid and knee surgery in 2022, or...

Workgroup Server 9150 Freezes Without Additional Cooling - Can anyone check their WGS VR temps?

All the PPC601 machines that ran at 100MHz or over came with a Peltier equipped heat sink with those four clips. Shreve Systems used to sell them for some absurd price like 10 for $20 or some such. I wish I'd picked up a box at the time, I think. That said, I did some experiments a couple of...

    MacGurus Contact?

Thank you phunguss. If you think it will help. you can mention that I was a Moderator on the Macgurus forums back when. Probably wasn't active much after about 2010. IIRC I was using the same handle there, trag.

    MacGurus Contact?

The only experience I have with domain name registration is the few domains I have. I've seen the anonymized contact option, but never looked closely at it. If I email a message to contact@idcprivacy.com will they forward it to the domain holder or will it just go to dev/null?

    MacGurus Contact?

And bounced. "email address could not be found or was misspelled." I also tried admin@macgurus.com. I guess it's off to my old email archives.

    MacGurus Contact?

Thank you. Email sent. I've now reached out to all three of my target old fora. The only person I know I've reached is Jeff Keller of PowerWatch. He's checking whether he still has an archive of PowerWatch.

    MacGurus Contact?

Ah, good idea. I should have thought of that. I appreciate the helpful brain power. I was going to go check my personal email archives from when I was a moderator there and hope anything I found was still good 20 years later... I think your idea is better.

    MacGurus Contact?

I just went to message someone at MacGurus and found a nice "We're closed" web page, but no way of contacting anyone. I wanted to contact them about the possibility of TinkerDifferent hosting their old forum in read only format. Anyone have a contact?

Calling all members! Would you like to join the Tinker Different Board?

Hello, my name is Jeff Walther and I would like to volunteer to participate on the Board if you are short of candidates. I guess that is not a ringing shout of enthusiasm, but it is a quiet acknowledgement of responsibility. I enjoy using the forums, though I am not currently as active as I...

    Turbo 601 PDS questions

IIRC, the heat sink has the same four clip holes surrounding the CPU chip as is found on the Apple PPC601 logic boards. It won't be as gigantic, but I would grab one of those little square, cage-like heat sinks that Apple used on the X100 series and 7200s. I used to have a bunch of them, but...

Flash the raid card, to AEC-6280M from 6880M, to 6260M from 6860M

Right you are. I hope I was posting late at night and not just having that much brain disfunction naturally.... Good luck after installing the switch block. Keep us posted. It's great to read about your progress.

Flash the raid card, to AEC-6280M from 6880M, to 6260M from 6860M

Good luck. Looking forward to the report. The switch is just a 2 gang DIP switch. Ought to be easy to get from Mouser or similar, but shipping will be four times as much as the switch.

Flash the raid card, to AEC-6280M from 6880M, to 6260M from 6860M

IIRC, they had some kind of software control for setting the RAID mode on the PC card so that the switches were not needed.

Flash the raid card, to AEC-6280M from 6880M, to 6260M from 6860M

Guessing and assuming Kay has the correct information, which seems likely, it looks like you would want to do the following: For ACARD chip Remove: R71 Replace: 102 on R16 and R19 Afterwards, follow Kay's flashing instructions above, **but** if you want to end up with a 6880M and not a...

Flash the raid card, to AEC-6280M from 6880M, to 6260M from 6860M

Ah, you probably have an 'A' version of one and a 'B' version of the other. Although Kay's posting above suggests there were already 2 versions before the 'B' came out, so there may have been 3.

Flash the raid card, to AEC-6280M from 6880M, to 6260M from 6860M

There used to be a web page on how to do, but it's long since down. It boils down to, set a 6880M next to a 6880 and then anywhere you see a difference in the resistors, change the 6880 to match the 6880M. Then program/flash the 6880 with the 6880M firmware. There may have been one more bit...

    Spaceward Ho!

My first LAN parties were a bunch of us bringing over our Macs and playing Spaceward Ho. Some us were even able to run the color version. But folks kept get kicked off the game seemingly at random. Later I figured out that File Sharing only supports 8 users, so every time we hooked up the...

    Brainstorm Clone?

I believe it. I think you've been in Japan ever since we've been communicating and I think that goes back to sometime close to 2000.
