You are correct. Two years later, I realize I did not read carefully enough. You were writing about converting from RAID card for Mac to non-RAID card for Mac. I was confused and thinking of card for PC to card for Mac.

My guess is that they are capacitors. Perhaps they're driving the ROMs a little too fast and the capacitors provide that extra little bit of current when the ROMs draw extra power. Totally guessing and could be totally wrong, but a component without continuity which is nevertheless needed...

The tricky part in finding the part is finding a '705 with enough RAM. The e1 has 368 bytes of RAM. Most of the other variants have 176 or similarly small amounts.
