In 2007, 68kMLA member "Mac128" and myself (JDW) discussed the creation of 800K "MFS" disks and floppy drives that would work with the Macintosh 128K and 512K, regardless of ROM version. Extensive testing was done to confirm what would and would not work. A month later, Mac128 compiled the...
You'd be wrong about that.
Through the years I've read many people talk about what things they THINK need recapping and what they don't. Most of that goes beyond their own personal machine usage experience and also ties in with what they read online, or more accurately, what they DON'T read...
This is a 1984 brochure that I completely refurbished. It provides Apple product dealers and resellers with guidance on how to sell the Macintosh 512K relative to the 128K model.

One of the lesser-known compact Mac cooling fans is called Mac N' Frost. I found the Mac N' Frost interesting compared to the more mainstream Fanny Mac and the Kensington fans for the 128k, 512k, and Plus.
Introducing the Mac N' Frost!
Designed by Roy Hicks and marketed by RH Electronics in...
While digging up info on the LSI LOGIC chip used on the Apple IIe Card, I came across a book about LSI which provided some very interest historical info I had never read anywhere else. Amazing what could have been!
One day Doug came in with a copy of EE Times. It had a photo of Steve Jobs and...
Overview
The Mac 128k, 512k, and Plus did not have an internal SCSI connector on the mobo. Yet, back in the day, there were solutions. Now, I think there is a great potential to bring that back to use SCSI drives inside those older compact Macs. :)
This thread will be the discussion and...
I bought a dead Mac 128k a while ago and now finally getting around to recapping it. It's been pretty straightforward, except for one capacitor. Noticed that someone added a 100ohm resistor on the negative side of the C6 capacitor on the analog board. Was curious if anyone knew what this was for?
This guide was created based on an early 1984 128K Mac analog board P/N 630-0102 with a black anode cap and Logic Board P/N 630-0101. Regardless, this guide should also apply to later revisions of the 128K, 512K and Plus. Links to Digikey and Mouser have not been included since things go out of...
Some time in 1988, a small company created a video output adapter for early compact macs with the model number 2702. There are other models, but the focus of my post is on this adapter. I can only assume they were a small company with a handful of employees because later the following year they...
I purchased this Mac 128k logic board knowing it wasn't working. I've poked at it a little over the last 6 months, which includes:
Building a 4164 DRAM tester and testing the original DRAM. I found 2 were faulty but ended up replacing them all.
Swapping the LS166 @ F14 & F15 (example board...
