Finally got this thing 100% done!
  • full recap of the PSU and logic board
  • replaced HD with a BlueSCSI
  • new thermal paste on both CPUs
  • added a slim, quiet 80mm fan behind the inlet vents
  • 264MB RAM on the Mac side
  • 32MB RAM on the PC side (PC wouldn't boot with a 64MB EDO SIMM installed )
  • OS 8.6 / Windows 95 on top of DOS 6.22
  • thorough cleaning and retrobrite...looks brand new!
I'm going to rearrange some stuff on my desk to give it a permanent home, but here she is performing her DOS gaming duties admirably:

Looks fantastic - nice job with the restoration! I had a plain-Jane 6100 back in the day and it was great machine for playing Marathon over LAN.

I remember playing 2-player DOS Doom over serial cable to an actual PC with mine when I was a kid.

I have a 6100 with a dos card. But i think the 6100 needs to be recap'd because the cd audio doesn't work. Which means the soundblaster on the dos card doesn't produce sound. It took some troubleshooting to figure that out, because the mac DOES beep. but won't play audio on cd nor will the dos side have sound.

Now I kinda wanna play with my CP/M Apple II card. Kind of a similar idea I guess...platform compatibility by just slapping a native CPU on a card :)

I've got this new-in-box one for the IIc too, but my IIc's still need fixing up:

i don't know if its true. but i've heard that that card was at one time the most popular CPM computer. Like out of all the CPM machines you could buy at the time. the card for the apple II one sold the most.

I find these kinda .. computer on a card .. type things interesting.

Upgraded my 6100 with a GUIDED MISSILE :ROFLMAO:. Grabbed this (hilariously marketed) slot blower fan for $2 at VCFMW to see if it fit under the 6100's HD bay. After removing the slot bracket, it's snug, but it fits perfectly:

It's quiet and blowing a steady stream of cool air from outside the case directly at both the PPC and 486 heatsinks.

Might have to pick up this type of cooler for mine. The heat was pretty crazy when I ran mine briefly to set up Windows on it. Thanks for the inspiration!
