Anyone else a huge fan of the Alien franchise?

Speaking of games: Alien: Isolation is a must play! Available on a lot of platforms, even on iOS.
Absolutely agree with this - I worked with two of the guys from Feral who ported it to mac and I live about 15 miles away from Creative Assembly in Horsham.

The design brief was "don't add anything that couldn't have been made as a physical prop in 1979“. The fact that the whole team were respectful of the source material was an added bonus.

The standout feature of the game of course, aside from the visuals, are the AI director and the procedurally generated music.

Damn, I want to play through it again. It should be fine now I have a pacemaker and built in defib should anything go horribly wrong! 😂

First two Aliens rocked, later ones... not so much. Fassbender was ace, but missed opportunities.

Ha! There was due to be an Aliens/Star Trek crossover graphic novel released, but it got cancelled for some reason - was supposed to be set on the Enterprise-D at some point before it went boom over Veridian III - i'd have loved to have read that!

There have been so many franchise crossovers with Aliens, it's a shame it didn't pan out.

Now that the film is now available for streaming on home video and soon to be released on DVD, Blu-Ray and awesomely, on VHS in a 4:3 format.

So, for those of you that have watched it - what did you think of it?

I went to see this in the cinema with two friends and it was AWESOME. Honestly a first class movie experience. Most things I've been to see are either 'OK or 'oh that's fun' but this was EPIC.

For me, the set design was just fantastic. The audio design, the little cues and callbacks everywhere you look, to the first movie - I absolutely loved the whole thing from beginning to end.

The direction and story were top-notch, some bits maybe a little contrived/convenient but willing to overlook it for the sake of the overall picture. Fede Alvarez has done a magnificent job and it's clear that this was made by someone who not only respects the first two films but respects the source material and the world building that was already done, rather than jon spaiht's abortion that was the prometheus blunder trying to make something entirely new.

Also, i have to single out David Jonsson's performance as 'Andy' - just...*chefs kiss* top notch. I'm so glad that the film has been a critical and commercial success and that a sequel is already greenlit and on the way. Oooh - and they just released a one-shot graphic novel to reveal what happened between the opening scene and the crew of the Corbelan setting foot on the station!

I completely agree with everything you said! "Andy" was definitely a high point for me, loved the character and his arc. Something new with Alien universe Artificial Persons.

The homages to Alien and the proto Aliens nods were great. A friend felt there was too much "fan service" but I thought it was just right. They made it fit with the universe in my head much better than Prometheus and Alien: Covenant did. Sort of how the aesthetic of the new Star Wars Disney+ shows fits in the universe of the old movies. And to bring a third Sci-Fi show in, is somewhat problematic for me with the newer Star Trek TV shows (which is hard for me to admit since I love everything Star Trek)

Story wise, the string of nerve wracking scenes, reminded me of the unrelenting pacing of Aliens and while impossible to top that IMHO it was close to as enjoyable. The last parts with the Offspring where my least favorite, not awful by any means but seems too similar the end of Alien Resurrection. not that I have any better ideas how it could have ended.
