Apple's Concession to Right to Repair

Spotted this article today:

Apple has conceded some of the battles it has been fighting with the Right to Repair movement, and for the first time will sell parts and tools directly to consumers with the new "Self Service Repair" program.

This won't help folks who have "obsolete" Macs since I believe Apple only offers parts for about 7 years. There are older Intel Macs like the late 2009 27" iMac that have ongoing repair issues pertaining to the video card. Even so, this change is a rather surprisingly positive concession by Apple that ultimately will bode well for those of us who are into repair. (And who among is isn't, right?)

If they're offering repair manuals, i have some hope that things like schematics and datasheets will be included...not necessarily parts.

I am really hopeful they will open up GSX (Global Service Exchange) - the internal tool Geniuses use. Or at least create a new portal for outside use. But I am thinking that will only include items for which they are selling parts. But who knows? They may surprise us and really make this a great resource for supporting old Apple devices for years to come!
