There’s your reminder that it’s not just maxells… that appears to be some aftermarket battery, I don’t recognize the brand as one Apple used, but you can see that it’s gone off just as bad.

But it didn't leak, right? I've not seen the Rayovac batteries spill their guts all over the place like the Maxell's so often do in SEs or SE/30s.

They can and will, it just seems to take a severe leak for damage to be caused. They're certainly better than the 1/2AAs, but they can't be trusted and still should be removed. I've heard multiple cases of people losing LC 575 boards to those batteries.
