Hi,

Please allow me to do a bit of self-promotion here for some programs I’ve been developing recently. It’s an experiment to help MacOS 9 connect with the modern internet environment, building on the hard work of those who came before me.

First of all, because MacOS 9 does not have a modern crypto library, it cannot connect to modern TLS services. I referred to the mbedTLS OS9 port and created a library called ClassicNet that supports HTTP/2.

OS9Map.pngOS9Map uses this library to allow Macs to connect to OpenStreetMap, as well as search for addresses and POIs.

The next step is unicode. Unicode on OS9 is not well supported. To render a big part of Internet, I created ClassicText for emoji.

PlatinumSky.pngPlatinumSky is the OS9 app for BlueSky, and
Palaeomastodon.pngPalaeomastodon is the OS9 app for Mastodon.

Not really helpful for productivity, but it feels nice to connect the old MacOS 9 to the modern internet!

Will you be offering these libraries for use in other projects?
Yes, I’d be happy to make these libraries available for use in other projects.
I just need to make a few changes first, such as removing all the hard-coded paths/build options, giving the credits, ... etc.

I see you mention CodeWarrior for the shlbs. Can this be built from scratch in CodeWarrior? Are there .mcps available?

Thank you for posting it!
Nope. CodeWarrior is only the fallback plan if Retro68 won't work.
(I tried CodeWarrior several years ago. It's kinda painful--outdated language standard, limited code editor feature, no version control...)
