G4 Power Supply Swap-Adapter Cable Has The Wrong Connector From ATX PS to Adapter Cable

I had been busy all week, and was just getting to the PS swap today. I began the involved process of taking the old PS out, only to discover that the adapter I was sent, as per Action Retro's video, has the wrong connector going from the ATX power supply to the adapter.



All that work for nothing. Not happy.

I need to get a replacement.

Sean's video. ATX cable adapter mention at 12: 12. None of this is Sean's fault, BTW-he puts out good videos.

The adapter requires one of the 4pin (typically there are 2 on a psu) plug that goes to the motherboard in addition to the 20 pins (20+4).

MDD power pinout:

Standard ATX plus 4 pins.

Were there no instructions with the cable/adapter?

From the pictures it looks like you're not using the correct connector from the PSU. I haven't seen a PSU using only a 20-pin in years.

Forgive my ignorance, as this is the first time I've tried doing this on a Mac. Are you saying the pictures below indicate the power supply is correctly connected to the adapter cable?

Ah, ok. Sorry. Yeah, I don't think this cable is correct.

Right. I was sent the wrong cable. I already contacted the seller.

I am guessing the cable is correct, you need to identify the 4-pin on the PSU, or you have a non-standard PSU (ATX PC power supply).

Well, I went by the links corresponding to Sean's video-which is where I got the power supply & the cable from.

This indicates the P1 connector from your PSU is not the correct one. It's only 20 pins, which is an OLD standard. Standard ATX is 24pin for many years now. It looks like you might have a modular PSU - in that case, please look for the correct 24p ATX cable. That will line up perfectly with your adapter.

The amazon link from the Youtube video shows the P1 should have 24 pins. You may have received the wrong PSU.

Look at the connectors on the PSU... This looks like your 4 missing pins...

The PSU linked on amazon: photo shows 24pins... NOTE: The 20pin and 4pin are often detachable... find how they mate together and plug into the adapter cable.

It could possibly be correct... There is nothing on the Amazon image showing the "24" designation, but I can assume those are the remaining 4 pins plus the 20 = "24". Just make sure it is NOT 1/2 of the P3 connector (those should not fit anyway, the square/rounded corners should not align).

phungus-no, it fit snugly. And yeah: the square/rounded corners should match. BTW, I'm not a tech guy-just an artist. But I'm not afraid to jump in there.

I believe this cable needs to be plugged into 1/2 of the P3 cable from the PSU.
