This is challenge #2 with 3 new game selection. Don't know what this is about? Then check out the previous thread of challenge #01 here.

You can only submit 3 scores PER game. We'll have none of hyperfocused spam from one player, discouraging others to participate. Knowing this, what will you do? Do a quick valiant effort as a first submission to set the bar high? Keep practicing silently so you can come in late and shatter everyone else's notion of a good score? Oh, the drama that will unfold if we get into it!

Need help running these?
If you're here, chances are slightly higher that you have a real vintage mac capable of extracting and running these games just fine from Mac Garden. However, you might not have such a useful setup, and may want to resort to emulation. That's more than fine!
Here are some good tutorials to get an emulator setup. It's a pain, but it's well worth the effort and you'll be glad for all future usage of old mac games and apps.

Here's Macintosh Librarian's tutorial on the Basilisk II emulator (great for color, Performa-type 68k machines)
Here's Classic Mac Gaming (Gruz)'s tutorial on the mini-vMac emulator (great for black and white, Mac Plus era machine)

nifty EASY to download .DSK volume that's compatible with both Baslisk II and mini-vMac. Just download the attached file

GAME 1 - MOUSE STAMPEDE 2.0 (1994) - Recommended emulators: Basilisk II or mini-vMac

GAME 2 - CRYSTAL QUEST 2.2 (1987) - Recommended emulators: Basilisk II or mini-vMac

Already working on Crystal quest. It crashes under 6.0.8 on my PowerBook 100 but go figure runs fine on my 180c under 7.5.3…
Edit: just tried out mouse stampede, what an action packed game! Though I do slightly worry about the mouse button on my PowerBook…

You can hold the mouse button in Mouse Stampede and it'll fire continuously.

Unfortunately I don’t… I haven’t gotten a chance to play it yet though, both the systems I’ve got on me right now (180c and 100) won’t open it for one reason or another.
It's an ancient beast. Best to play it on a Mac compact. Maybe SE or Classic 1 and below. Maybe it runs on a SE/30 but I doubt it . Or, mini-vMac way.

Gonna have to be vMac then, don’t have any compacts (yet). I’d think that it would run fine on a PowerBook 100 though, it ought to. It’s a 68000, black and white, system 6. And the game is from 89, not 86 or some time like that. Nope though, gives an error that it needs 1MB of RAM (the PowerBook has 2MB and over 1MB free). Running it under system 7 on the 100 made it straight up reboot, no error, just rebooted. It froze my 180c unsurprisingly.

Good luck, hope we can get some people in here. I could make a short for my secondary channel as well if you’d like. I’ve got some scores but I’m not submitting yet because I think I can do better.
Edit: put out a community post on my channel. Hopefully that can help!

So, I'm going to start working on my Mouse Stampede entry, but: I have a copy of Mouse Stampede 1.0, which appears not to be on any of the usual sites. Even the downloads marked "1.0" actually seem to contain 2.0.

The disk works, will boot my Mac Plus, but I can't copy it. Error in DiskCopy, the Finder says "this file cannot be copied or moved" and DiskDupe II fails too. Unreadable on a known good floppy drive in my IIfx.

Is there anyone in Australia with one of the floppy controllers that can make a MOOF out of it? It seems, as one of if not the first commercial third party game for the Mac, version 1 is worth preserving.

I also have a copy of Mouse Stampede 1 somewhere on my disks. It was a simply drag and drop copy, not the original commercial disk. It might lay somewhere in one multiple game diskette, or inside one of my failed hard disks. I was surprised to see Mouse Stampede v2 that late in the era (1994?!) When I fetched it from Mac Garden. I think it's more gentle on System 7 setups and beyond Mac Plus machines.

I was hoping to play on my 128k, but version 2 won't work and its floppy drive isn't reliable enough to read the disk — it seems to only like its own floppies. Perhaps I should just play on my Plus…but when I turned that on the analogue board made a sparking noise, so I fear it's not long for the world. Or maybe it was just a spider meeting its doom.

As I predicted. Very low score for my try. Still a fun couple of games. I was unable to run Crab Attack II.

That bat in mouse stampede is the worst. Impossible to get rid of, random movements, and a huge hitbox. I'm close to the record but not there yet, had to stop playing due to how much that darn bat was frustrating me.

Oh, and also, if you click the increase starting score button too many times, the game crashes! And if that happens, it's back to 30,000 for you. Why does the starting score work off your past game's highscore anyway? It means you have to play for 20 minutes first each session just to get to the point of beating your record, regardless of skill.

It's mostly fun though, if it wasn't I wouldn't keep playing it.
