Much more useful information would sampled by attaching that probe to the closed, front side of the flyback heat shield/radiator cage. @alxlab could use that config to test the OEM fan cage part to his two improved versions. That should prove quite interesting.

edit: easy title search at MLA. delete post to clean things up. ;)

Reloaded, much upgraded A/B would make a great Hardware thread, definitely tangential here.

Yeah, but it's OT here and probably deserves a dedicated discussion in hardware. That's most especially true of the A/B reloaded/upgraded notion I think. That'll likely branch off into its own topic as well if I can I get it going. ;)

Hey @alxlab! How is it going with the updated design? Earlier, I asked where my Noctua would fit between the two parts of the bracket? :)

Cheers!

The bracket would be one piece like the current one on github. You would screw the fan into the back of the bracket and then screw the bracket onto the analog. That's it!

I'll finish the model tomorrow.

just to know…..did place the sensor on the coil. It went up from 24C to 45C in about two hours. Dont think this is crazy hot or so.

@alxlab Just did another stream of semi-consciousness brain dump in the SE Borked tangent post. Testing the efficiency of your ductwork designs against Apple's kluge may be in the cards?

Would a modification of your baseline bracket design converting it to the SE's A/B mounting points be necessary or is it good to go as is?

What machine's flyback is that, no cage apparent? The fact that temp readings are lower on flyback in comparison to CPU temp doesn't matter. Now you're sampling a point more closely aligned with machine cooling state that's unaffected by processor activity. Readings are much nearer to point of exit and should prove to be more relevant to the problem at hand I think?

It's @-SE40-'s Classic II; if you look at one of the pictures, he attached a white wire running through the floppy disk opening, which is clear is a Classic II. :)

The flyback on the AB in the Classic II does not have a metal fence cage around it. I guess maybe Apple decided it is not wild enough to corral it? 🤪
