How feasible is it to replace the NiCd cells in a 180c battery and use it safely?

I would like to pick up a 180c… I think it's been restored in every other respect as much as possible (recapped logic/display, though original screen do probably dim)but it only has merit if I can actually use it on a battery.

Very, IMO. I'm in the process myself. The most difficult part is paying the cash for the new cells ($$$)... for me, they're expensive!!

I also considered 3D printing a new casing, but decided to disassemble and use an M5654 battery instead. IMO, the M5654 case is preferable over the M5653 as the terminals are simplified and easier to cut through. Of course the M5653 terminals can be simplified. I'm currently on the hunt for an affordable location to buy the replacement cells... but I'll save that for a later thread, I don't want to hijack yours. In fact, I'll probably do a thread of my own when I've finished everything.

Will do! Would be interested in seeing how the OG case rebuilds go too. I heard it was somewhat difficult to crack them open and I have a printer so I decided to try that first.

I might try adding some of those supplementary supports inside once I get the cells from the builder (I'm not doing that part, yet).
