SE/30 double color displays

Earlier this year, I was able to do something pretty cool. I was running an SE/30 with a IIsi Radius Pivot Card as well as a Micron Color XCEED Card. The Micron card has a standard PDS address, but the Pivot is able to be changed. Because there isn't enough room inside the bucket, I had to leave it off. The micron is driving the Dell LCD and the Radius is driving the Apple 17" Multiscan Display. There is also a TwinSpark riser and a Daystar 50Mhz PowerCache to keep things running quickly.

For some reason, I haven't been able to get the Radius card working like I did before, I think it might have something to do with pin sensing. I'd like to have someone test the IIsi Pivot Card for me to verify that it's still working correctly. I haven't tried it in another one of my SE/30 so maybe I'll try that first. (I have three of them). I have MacFlim playing the "Dodge This" clip from the Matrix, and it's also displaying the JPEGView Parrots on the 17" and a gray scale logo on the Dell. The Dell and the 17" are both running 640X480 256 Colors. Apparently you can run the Radius Pivot at 832X624, but I am not entirely sure how to get that going with the VGA adapter.

Hope you like this, as I'm not sure if anyone has done this before.

I'm working on the Micron Gray Scale adapter board and harness, as I'd love to have internal gray scale, external color, ethernet, Acceleration and Wifi working for the cool Spotify Remote.

Love to hear your thoughts and feedback.

Technically you COULD get all this inside the bucket, but you'd need to create a homemade PDS extension and some creative mounting techniques. May also have to check the power supply to make sure it's not being taxed too much. Both the logic board and the power supply have been recapped.

Hi, @nottomhanks! :)👋

Are you still running dual monitors on your SE/30? Boy, you have a tall 030 PDS stack that broke through the roof of your SE/30! 🤓

The top PDS connector on the Radius Pivot card is a pass-through to connect other PDS cards, correct?

I’m working on it. I figured out that the pin sensing on the Pivot card isn’t quite setup right. If you angle the DB15 to VGA adapter the right way then it works. Right now I’m focused on getting the internal gray scale working correctly.

Cool. So, have you figured out what the jumpers are for on the right of the top PDS connector of the Radius Color Pivot IIsi video card? Does it set the slot address of the card?

Yeah, those are for the addressing. If you’re running multiple cards you have to make sure they’re not conflicting. I have the MacCon, Radius card and Micron all on different addresses.

Okay, great! That is what I understood as well. (y) :) The SE/30 is a member of the Macintosh II family, so it can have up to 6 "slots" by way of slot addressing that do not conflict with each other. 🤓

Do you have a scanned PDF file of the manual for the Radius Color Pivot IIsi PDS card? I would like to see a table that it should have for jumper settings that correspond to the following addresses:

16M byte Standard Address Space
256M byte Super Address Space
Slot 9
F900 0000 ~ F9FF FFFF
9000 0000 ~ 9FFF FFFF
Slot A
FA00 0000 ~ FAFF FFFF
A000 0000 ~ AFFF FFFF
Slot B
FB00 0000 ~ FBFF FFFF
B000 0000 ~ BFFF FFFF
Slot C
FC00 0000 ~ FCFF FFFF
C000 0000 ~ CFFF FFFF
Slot D
FD00 0000 ~ FDFF FFFF
D000 0000 ~ DFFF FFFF
Slot E
FE00 0000 ~ FEFF FFFF
E000 0000 ~ EFFF FFFF

For example, what I noticed for the Asante MacCon PDS NIC, Asante provides the following table for jumper settings to assign the address of the card, something like this:

Jumpers
J1
J2
ON
9
A
OFF
E
B

Do you have a PDF scan on the Asante MacCon NIC user manual? Some are online, but downloading isn't working correctly, and sometimes the sites do not clearly show the text.

Thank you, @nottomhanks. :)(y)

I need to set the Radius Pivot IIsi card address (other than "slot 9") after changing its top connector angle with an adapter and connecting the Daynaport E/Si30 NIC (I believe defaulted to "slot 9"). Then, install the Pivot card in the PDS slot on the logic board in my SE/30 with the NIC connected on top of the Pivot card. 🤓

That is why I need the PDF of the user manual for the Radius Color Pivot IIsi card, as it should show the jumper table to set the address. :sneaky:

Here’s the link: you can daisy chain the Mac Con and Radius Pivot card in the IIsi because it has a right angle adapter.

Sigh. I cannot download it. Nags to register in order "to get five free downloads." I do not trust that site.

The jumper settings are the same on the Pivot card as the MacCon.
