Successful compact flash upgrade for PowerBook 3400c

I recently picked up this 3400c that for the most part is in excellent condition other than needing a new power adapter, a replacement PRAM battery and maybe some service to the power supply board. (Or a replacement one).
After reading through Jeff Geerling’s restoration post and some posts on 68kmla I decided on an IDE to compact flash adapter and a SanDisk 4GB card.
Both worked immediately and were recognized by HD Setup. I split the card into two partitions - one for System 7.6.1 and the other for more data.
This 3400c came with a 32MB RAM upgrade. I’m going to pickup a larger RAM card in the future.

Credit to Jeff Geerling and his blog posts and video that helped guide me along.

What isn't shown here is that the power supply board has been finicky - the PRAM battery was leaking and I cleaned that up. I didn't see any bad traces, but corrosion had moved through the battery wiring harness. I soaked that board in alcohol for a day and cleaned it. The caps aren't leaking - but I'm going to recap that board as a next step. I replaced the PRAM battery and relocated it to another part of the enclosure.

It's starting to come together. Great companion to my PowerBook 165c which was my first PowerBook restoration.

Je tiens à remercier Jeff Geerling pour ses articles de blog et ses vidéos qui m'ont été d'une grande aide.

Ce qui n'est pas visible ici, c'est que la carte d'alimentation était capricieuse : la pile PRAM fuyait et je l'ai nettoyée. Je n'ai pas vu de traces de corrosion, mais celle-ci s'était propagée dans le faisceau de câbles de la pile. J'ai fait tremper la carte dans de l'alcool pendant une journée, puis je l'ai nettoyée. Les condensateurs ne fuient pas, mais je vais les remplacer prochainement. J'ai remis la pile PRAM en place et je l'ai déplacée dans une autre partie du boîtier.

Ça commence à prendre forme. Un excellent complément à mon PowerBook 165c, qui était ma première restauration de PowerBook.
