Memory check occurs before the happy Mac. The happy Mac is happy in part because he passed his memory check.

On original Macs the screen has a dark background with a white closely spaced diagonal pattern during this time. On an SE/30 the screen is 50% gray, but with no happy Mac icon.

With lots of RAM, the screen will be dark. So, you'll hear the chime, then it'll remain dark until the gray screen appears, eventually followed by either the happy Mac icon, a floppy disk icon, or a sad Mac icon.

Strange. With stock ROM, Mode32 INIT, and 32-bit addressing enabled, my 128 MB SE/30 boors up fine then SAD Mac with various error codes after each cold restart. Was I supposed to wait until the Sad Mac passes on its own? I wonder if I was impatient?

disable Mode32 and see if it boots. If not, swap the original SIMMs back in?

Yeah it works when Mode32 off but not going to use all of 128 MB. I will troubleshoot further and update my other thread taming the SE/30 ROM.

Back on track for this thread. I am looking forward to more stories from @Volvo242GT's growing collection. :)

John, that's a significant list of great scores. The only thing I have to show for is a Quadra 700 with an AppleColor High Resolution Color Display. I did manage to also score a SCSI CD-ROM drive. Now I'm waiting for a CD caddy I just grabbed from ebay. I'm thinking of making a video about it.

Picked up a RasterOps 8/24XLi video card off the 'bay for $58.50, plus ship and tax. Have it installed in the C650 for now, even though that machine does 16 bit color natively. Eventually, it'll go into the IIci, once that computer's Nubus slots are functional again. Next weekend, probably going to start sourcing some parts for the IIgs, so I can make that system a bit more complete and useable.

Yep. Letting a friend of mine work on the IIci, since he has the soldering tools necessary to do whatever is necessary to get it fixed. The IIgs needs some drives, a memory expansion card, and a monitor to be complete.

Conquested another IIci logic board. One with an uncorroded 74ALS240 chip at UH1. May have better luck with this one. Needs recapping. In retrospect, should've just left my IIci's old board in it and had that recapped, instead of messing around with the board that was recapped, but with the damaged chip from my previous IIci.

Just received an LCIII from @AppaloosaMac over at the 68kMLA forums. Everything seems good on it, except, of course, for the floppy drive, which needs some servicing done as per usual. 36MB of RAM, 40MB Conner hard drive, with System 7.5 installed.

Picked up a junker LPS240S Quantum drive with the Apple ROM on its board. Took the board and installed it on the Digital-branded LPS240S that I got from @kernspaltung last year. As some of you may be aware, the drive stopped working after the activity LED from a IIci was attached, then the Centris 650 was powered up after mounting the LED in a spot so it'd shine through the floppy drive slot. Some people thought it was a head crash, but, turns out the board became fried. After installation of the Apple ROM'ed board, the drive works fine again. Became the LCIII's first upgrade.

A few Apple IIgs items. AE GS-RAM Plus with 1MB of RAM currently installed, Apple A2M6016 monochrome monitor with its cables, Apple A9M0107 5.25 drive, and a ReActive Micro 2 AAA battery adapter to replace the clipped BRAM battery.

Latest grabs:

More RAM for the MBP
A 466MHz G4 Digital Audio with 768MB of RAM and two hard drives
Keyboard for above
Apple Cinema Display

And, from @Bama, an Apple II SCSI card for the IIgs.

Next, a Mac SE SuperDrive. Getting that one for $120 from the eBay seller commanderscott. Was willing to sell it off eBay for that price. Yes, I apparently can't stay away from them... lol
