Incredible progress @PappaDF !!! Please share what you can as working together can work at continuing to the main goal! I know you said you were going to post something but I'm very excited. I want to get this info into astra as soon as possible. 😊

I've now uploaded it here: https://github.com/pappadf/powermac-nt-hal

We can always find a better home for it later on - just want to make sure that you get access to it asap. Note that I didn't really take the time to clean it up or review it properly. There could be a lot of strange Ai-generated things in there.

To follow what exactly my AI agent have done - start with README.md and STORY.md, and continue with docs/* for additional details. Under traces/ you can follow the exact progress in terms of terminal output/screenshots.

It now passes hard drive partitioning and ends with:

I think same spot where @PappaDF left off yesterday needing HAL support.

Thanks! Great progress! How far into the boot are you here, i.e. what were the previous screens/output that you passed?
For sure! I was able to get past picking the display adapter, and storage controller. I will be able to pick back up in a few hours. I’m telling you we are all so close I can taste it!!

I would check the Name Registry using Display Name Registry or DisplayNameRegistry or my DumpNameRegistry to see what is visible to the OS.

Notice that the 54M30 is not attached to any PCI slot, nor the 53C825. The OS treats the 54M30 as a "built-in display" but that's not good enough for the SCSI controller. The devices I installed in its actual PCI slots do show up, and have slots, e.g.,

The slot enumeration is also different (2.0 uses things like "E1" or "C1" instead of "SLOTx_PCIy").

This is where I am currently at:

  • New HAL: HALSHINR-0.1-MARKER.
  • Both SCSI controllers receive the expected memory addresses and IRQs.
  • Interrupts occur on both controllers.
  • Final result remains STOP 0x7B — INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE, with 0xC0000034.

Oh, I thought I had posted that here before. Here is what the relevant sections look like:

Notice that the 54M30 is not attached to any PCI slot, nor the 53C825. The OS treats the 54M30 as a "built-in display" but that's not good enough for the SCSI controller. The devices I installed in its actual PCI slots do show up, and have slots, e.g.,
Right. Apple System Profiler doesn't list every PCI device. Just ones in slots that have slot names.

The slot enumeration is also different (2.0 uses things like "E1" or "C1" instead of "SLOTx_PCIy").
The ANS 2.0 ROM does away with the Apple Network Server slot naming and uses PowerSurge type slot names.

Your problem is that the method used to attach the 54M30 driver to the device does not work for the 53C825 driver. Have you tried looking at TradDriverLoaderLib sample source code?
Search for it at:
https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/navigation/#section=Platforms&topic=macOS
Also search there for MoreIsBetter which contains a more recent TradDriverLoaderLib in the MoreDevices section.
But wait, TradDriverLoaderLib is for 68K drivers. You're trying to load a native PPC driver. In that case, you may need the DriverLoaderLib.

Loading native drivers is discussed in Tech Note 1189 "The Monster Disk Driver Technote".
https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/technotes/tn/tn1189.html
It has a section "Installing and Removing Drivers and Drives" which refers you to other relevant documents and sample source code.
It says that "you can set up your DriverDescription so that the system automatically finds and opens your device driver. "
Have you examined the DriverDescription from the ndrv to make sure it matches the hardware?

The tech note says "A native driver is commonly stored in a file of type 'ndrv'". Is the file type correct? Does the file have a cfrg(0) resource? Is it in the extensions folder?

Maybe you need to use the DriverLoaderLib to load the driver manually.

There's a "SCSI Driver Example" example mentioned by the Tech Note. I think that's a 68K driver though.
Actually, the PCI DDK 3.0 has source code for "an NCR 8250 PCI interface card that uses an NCR 53C825 SCSI interface chip".
You should definitely look at that PCI Driver Development Kit.

This mentions SCSI SIM:
https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/qa/dv/dv22.html

I wonder if you can add the driver to the SCSI controller while in Open Firmware? Create Open Firmware commands to create the driver,AAPL,MacOS,PowerPC property and download it via serial port using the dl[icode] command. Then see if the SCSI controller is bootable or accessible in Mac OS.
