I think the duct tape should be okay there. Not sure about the magnet. Does the platter spin? These old PB drives are notorious for failing, and in a variety of ways. I had a Connor just like this fail in a 170 some time after I repaired it. A bunch of others just... died. Most of the drives in...

Any magnets should remain in place, unless something has happened to the magnet, in which case you could try to repair it but it would be a temporary fix. There are other reasons the hdd might be having issues - including sticky bumpers - what is the brand of the drive?

There are a few stl's out there you could use or alter; some people have had success using a nicd battery pack or aa cells (I've repacked batteries using 10 cells like the originals did) - if you don't have an original pack to salvage the terminal strips from, you will need to devise something...

He's not really offering support at the moment. It seems he didn't quite appreciate how offering something like this for sale comes with a whole ton of additional obligations, specifically support. He's restricted the Discord, and just doesn't to have time / energy to provide the level of upkeep...

Hakko has a couple videos showing some examples: I think if you watch earlier Louis Rossman videos (I know, yawn) or Northbridge videos, they also use bent tips quite a lot, so you might get a sense of use. Try it out and see how it feels - all really depends on what works for you.

For me, at least, I find conical tips least useful since I'm rarely trying to apply heat to a single fine point, I'm usually trying to spread heat across pins / pads, or to pin and its via pad, or I'm wanting to 'carry' solder or apply it generally to a pad. So chisel, bent, and hoof. For me...

Are you able to hit the web server? Perhaps not since you've reset it. Yeah, resetting usually works so your experience is interesting. Reset it again? Also, I've found it can be finicky about the order of things... so try resetting / restarting the modem first, connecting it to the iici, then...

If the hard drive has failed it can prevent booting. Try booting without the hard drive connected and see if you get the flashing disk icon

That's a clever solution for the annoying glue on the polarizer --- how does the display compare now the to the other 540c?
