Macintosh II & IIx replacement battery holders

You are correct! I suppose you could omit the one for the clock/pram battery if you really wanted to, but the startup battery is required (well, you can jumpstart it, but that's a little impractical for normal use).

Macintosh II & IIx replacement battery holders

My II came with two leaded Varta 1/2-AAs, which I then replaced with two standard Saft 1/2-AAs. I installed them using a 3D-printed battery holder designed by @Branchus specifically for the II. All you need to do is to poach the metal terminal leads from a couple of standard 1/2-AA holders and...

    Need someone to make rom

Do we know what EPROMs would be suitable for an LCIII? I have a programmer, but (in typical Apple fashion) the chips on my LCIII don't have meaningful IDs on them that I can tell. They are comprised of two 40-pin DIPs, Hi and Lo (in 42-pin sockets, naturally...).

    Jaz USB Adapter

That's good to know about the SCSI ID. I don't actually need to do it with a Zip 100 SCSI drive since I have a USB one, I was just trying it as a test. Perhaps I will try it with a hard drive that can have its scsi ID assigned to zero, and I'll just make sure it has termination resistors installed.

    Jaz USB Adapter

When using, say, a USB Zip 100 drive, no drivers are necessary on modern systems; the OS just treats it as a generic USB drive, hence my hope for the Jaz USB adapter.

    Jaz USB Adapter

So I've acquired a Jaz USB Adapter (very cheaply, I should add!) which came with an Iomega 25-pin SCSI adapter. Since SCSI is SCSI and USB is USB, it should work as a generic SCSI to USB adapter, no? However as a test I plugged it into my modern machine connected to a Zip 100 SCSI (with disk...

Vintage computer / recycling stores near LA or Las Vegas

Re: California, my understanding is that most of the vintage electronics stores are up in the San Francisco/San Jose area, a good 6+ hour drive north of LA. As a resident of LA, I wish there was something closer by! Perhaps someone else knows of one that I'm not aware of.

    Monitor Sad Shipping Story

I've done that before actually. They were very quick about sending it out though, so I didn't get a chance. But, in the end, it's mostly fine, and it ended up being free.

Hmm, guess I'm not sure what that sounds like! It does seem to have a dust burning smell, but that's to be expected, haha.

So far, each time, then it settles down. It may be correlated with whether it's receiving a signal or not. This will become more obvious as I use it.

    Monitor Sad Shipping Story

Thanks! Not yet, but I plan to do a full servicing of the monitor. For now though, there appears to be no problems with the tube itself, which is bright and crisp, with no burn-in (that I've noticed anyway). The hissing could have been arcing from the flyback, but given that it goes away, I...

It seems to be working at least! And it was hissing rather loudly, but that seems to have stopped now, thank goodness. Was afraid it might have been the flyback.

    Monitor Sad Shipping Story

Well, I'm sure you all can see where this is headed. Was very excited to get a reasonably priced M0401 High-Resolution RGB CRT from ebay, and... The seller didn't use bubble wrap at all. Just cardboard inserts. If they had used both, it would have been perfect, but with just the cardboard the...
