    BFEXTU's "Super" Mac II Revival

An FPU will only noticeably affect performance when using applications that are designed to make use of them for Floating Point calculations. 3D graphics, spreadsheets, and other such programs.

That particular seller lists things for nonsense prices anyway.

    Recent HiBid Auction

The standard AEHD does not read 1.4MB floppies on a Mac Plus to the best of my knowledge. The AEHD+ is unique in that it takes care of handling HD floppies in lieu of the floppy controller in the Mac Plus, which is of course unaware of them. That's my understanding anyway. In either case, both...

What I had really wanted was the AEHD+ drive, but it went above what I was willing to spend for it. I hope whoever won it received it one piece...

    Recent HiBid Auction

So I just got the last of several boxes of stuff I won in the Mac repair store auction from "Auction House 282" on HiBid. My goodness, was it packed poorly! Most of what I won were disks and books, and the sellers made almost zero attempt to secure or protect anything in the boxes. Some packing...

found this ADB switch...is it safe to use

It does seem to be a device begging for a purpose, but it's neat all the same! I do wonder if it would function as a KVM if you used it in reverse...

found this ADB switch...is it safe to use

I believe that all the devices that I have do indeed have pass-through ports, so not sure.

found this ADB switch...is it safe to use

Not sure about Modems and Scanners, etc... They may have just been adding possibilities for marketing reasons.

found this ADB switch...is it safe to use

There were non-serial devices that were ADB. Gamepads/joysticks and graphics tablets come to mind.

found this ADB switch...is it safe to use

Hmm, according to the original item description, despite being called a "switch", it's really more of an ADB hub than a KVM, which happens to have a switch for the various input devices: "Connect up to 3 ADB devices to your Mac computer." "Each ADB port will be able to access up to 3 devices."...

Any hint of a brand or manufacturer?

found this ADB switch...is it safe to use

Presumably it would be for controlling multiple computers with a single mouse/keyboard setup. As Trash80toG4 says, a KVM (keyboard/video/mouse), but without the "V".

    Idaho Apple Haul Hard Drives?

Quantum drives are a pain to restore, but it is possible (what with the sticked up bumpers inside). Non-Quantum drives should be generally okay as long as they haven't had something catastrophic happen to them.

iMac G3 Graphite 700MHz not booting, possibly cooked

When the power button was pressed, there was a brrzt as the crt degaussed, but nothing else seemed to happen. There was no other obvious activity as I recall.

iMac G3 Graphite 700MHz not booting, possibly cooked

As I say to everyone who has one of these with these symptoms: leave it plugged in for about a week, testing periodically if you wish. I was able to revive 3 400MHz G3s with this method, no recapping required. In fact I had initially recapped one of them only to find it did nothing to fix the...

Blackbird PCMCIA Module: worth setting out on a clone quest?

Exactly. The built-in ethernet makes it a godsend. Annoying that it used Apple's proprietary AAUI connector, but at least it's not that difficult to find an AAUI-to-RJ45 Ethernet tranceiver.

Blackbird PCMCIA Module: worth setting out on a clone quest?

Ah you were in that thread! How funny. :D While it would be nice to have a card cage for my 540c, it's not something I'm holding out for, unless it happens to stumble into my lap somehow. More of a novelty to me than strictly useful; there are plenty of ways of shuffling data to/from a...

Blackbird PCMCIA Module: worth setting out on a clone quest?

It is indeed quite rare, or at least people are holding on to the ones that are left, as when they do pop up for sale on ebay, they end up going for hundreds of dollars (way too much, imo).
