Donation yesterday to Twin Cities Free Geek!

@ScutBoy Notified a friend of mine who lives in St. Paul. He may drop by to buy one of the SE machines. Has been wanting one for a few months, once he saw a photo I sent of mine. Apparently, one of his family members had one for a few years, but got rid of it instead of passing it onto him.

    *Battery Gore Thread* NSFMacs

Most of you have already seen this, over at the 68kMLA forums. One of the SE/30s from my September 2012 Conquest. Tadiran that decided to Maxellify itself and blow its guts out. Yes, the holder was loose, as seen in the attached potatocam image below.

    Microsoft softcard?

Chip-wise, the later Apple 5.25 disk controller card is identical to the older 650-X104 disk ][ controller card. Only difference is the fact that the "DRIVE 1/2" headers are tied into the soldered-on ribbon cable with the DB-19 connector.

Is this IIgs board a ROM0 that was upgraded?

The IIgs upgrade kit was offered through at least 1989, btw. Maybe longer, but, there was less demand for it after the ROM 3 IIgs board came out, since an upgrade kit machine didn't have the upgraded memory, nor the upgraded ROMs. Also, the upgrade kit did not come with a memory expansion...

A nice Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook (for free!)

Time for a new pic, now that the "dead" MB is alive again... Anyway, nice score.

Is this IIgs board a ROM0 that was upgraded?

^Most likely. Also, all of the 0173-A boards I've seen have had the //e connectors preinstalled, so they were the universal IIgs boards that could be used either in an actual IIgs or in the upgrade kit for the //e.

    Unresponsive 160 Quantum ProDrive ELS

Does the drive seem to make a "skrrrick" noise, then do nothing other than spin up? If so, you might try the board from another known-working ELS170S drive. Possible that something got fried on the board, which is what I suspect happened to the LPS240S that used to reside in my Centris 650...

Macintosh Classic Issue - floppy disks not working in OS 7.X (Working in 6.0.7)

You can also choose "Put Away" or command-Y in System 7... Does the same as dragging the floppy to the trash can icon.

How to connect an old SCSI (MacSE) drive to a Powerbook?

Another option is to take an external hard drive or CD-ROM case, then install the drive in that. Use a normal HDI-30 to DB-25 SCSI adapter and a DB-25 to 50-pin Centronics cable with terminator to connect the drive to the PB.

Using parts from an 800k FDD MFD-51W-03 to repair to Mac Plus internal drive?

@vorg Oops... Maybe a small pair of needlenose vise grips clamped onto the head of the screw will loosen it. If you can get the red stripe cable, it might be worth trying the other drive in the Plus and see if it finally works properly. If it does, then you can take your time on fixing the...

[HELP NEEDED] Changing the long mini DB8 cable to connect from Mac to IW II printer

With respect to the different cables, the ones used with the Super Serial card are different, since one is meant for the Apple Personal Modem (or for hooking up a non-Apple modem to a Mac or IIgs), and the other is meant for printers, like the IWII and the StyleWriters, etc. The DB9 to MD8...

Using parts from an 800k FDD MFD-51W-03 to repair to Mac Plus internal drive?

The newer drive (one on the left) may need a different cable. Some of the earlier drives use a yellow stripe cable, which isn't pin compatible with the later drives. The later drives need the 590-0167 cable with the red stripe. That may explain why it continually ejects. With respect to your...

[HELP NEEDED] Changing the long mini DB8 cable to connect from Mac to IW II printer

Apple uses only one Mini-8 DIN cable for both printer and modem functions, so no rewiring necessary. As long as you aren't planning to use the setup with a Super Serial card, you won't need anything but the Belkin cable and one of the extension cables from the other auction.

Trying to get SE/30 running with Various Issues

Definitely time for a recap. With respect to the random garbled screen issue, while the bucket is off, move the logic board to analog board harness and see if the computer either restarts, or, if it's already running, freezes. My dual FDHD SE had a harness that had a couple pinched wires. At...

    Go-To Apple ADB Keyboard

Used a DataDesk Mac101e (was the dual interface version that could be used on a Plus or an ADB machine) back in college on a IIsi that was in the Chemistry department. Didn't care for it much at all. Much preferred the M3501 back then. Once I tried a M0115, however, that became my favorite of...

Macintosh Classic Issue - floppy disks not working in OS 7.X (Working in 6.0.7)

That sounds like you've an electrical short. A high pitched flupping sound occurs when something is shorting out to ground. Is the floppy drive properly mounted in place, or do you have it hanging out the side, possibly touching the chassis?

What I've received as of late...

With lots of RAM, the screen will be dark. So, you'll hear the chime, then it'll remain dark until the gray screen appears, eventually followed by either the happy Mac icon, a floppy disk icon, or a sad Mac icon.
