    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

Just for the record, I have a 4 Mb RAM expansion, for a total of 5 Mb. ROM version $037A.

Copying legacy software from internet repositories to 68k Macs

In theory it is like you describe, but my sometimes the disk is not automatically mounted, even if it’s marked “auto mount”. Maybe some conflict with some other SCSI device or whatever. (All in all, though, I must say it’s a mystery to me how the MO format could not reach the deserved...

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

I suspect your machine is trying to balance performance and battery life. I have "max performance" as default setting.

Copying legacy software from internet repositories to 68k Macs

So, today I had some spare time and took out of the closet one of my Cubes. I plugged a MO drive via USB and formatted the disk (230 Mb) in HFS. Using OS 9 and the web browser Classilla, I had a very smooth browsing experience on macintosh garden. Once downloaded, using StuffIt Expander 6.0 I...

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

I did some tests and I confirm I cannot reproduce the pattern you see (before/after sleep). Before / after has no impact and for some reasons I also get better scores than you get.

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

I rebuilt a couple of Portable batteries over the years. By rebuilding I mean pry open the battery case, replace the cells, seal back the case. At first, I used the same cells as the original ones. Perfect result, but same issue as the original ones. Once they discharge below a certain level...

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

My test was done with the power supply connected (no way the battery I have can last 7 hours!)

Copying legacy software from internet repositories to 68k Macs

Never used emulated hardware, as I have… too many real Macs around. But I will check this option, too.

Copying legacy software from internet repositories to 68k Macs

Where I live they are almost impossible to source, the official retailers are “out of stock” since almost two years now…

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

Honestly I cannot reproduce this one. I am using Norton Utilities and the score (overall, CPU, video, disk, FPU(sw)) are exactly the same after a fresh start or wake up from sleep.

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

This indeed is something new. I assume it’s just a temporary state, or is it?

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

You could divert the 5V directly from the flat cable, seems to be long enough.

Restoring SE/30 - Melted/damaged CRT power and CRT residue

I replaced both male and female connector on most of my compact Macs. Majority was charred. Not as bad as yours, but surely in bad conditions. You don’t need to re-crimp the male connector, just extract the pins (there’s a dovetail lock) and replace the plastic part. As for the female one...

Copying legacy software from internet repositories to 68k Macs

Dear All, I am sure the topic is thoroughly covered, but honestly I couldn’t find a single reliable source of information, so I decided to start a new thread. Topic: how to download legacy software from web archives (such as the Macintosh Garden) and effectively deploy it on target 68k...

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

You probably saw it already, but I confirm I take the power directly from the internal SCSI connector (both 5 and 12V, regardless whether they are used or not). So, same working logic as the original Conner drive.

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

Just checked: there's no power to the board when the machine is in sleep mode. As I push any key and wake it up, power surges immediately.

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

I guess the culprit is now identified. Btw, the adapter I am using is constantly powering the BlueSCSI unit.

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

Uh, that’s interesting, thanks for sharing! Honestly I don’t remember the configuration, I might have used the patched Apple disk formatter. That could explain.

    BlueSCSI on Macintosh Portable

I am using no special configuration (Mac Plus) and a self made adapter (some pics in the Resources section of the forum). Virtual drive formatted using HD Toolkit and with HDT driver installed. I just did a random test, waking it up 10 times in sequence after sleep. Not a single failure, even...
