My 1986 IIGS' battery - soldered in - was still good. I replaced it anyway, but I think that's the oldest CMOS I have. For rechargeable, my ThinkPad T20's battery (2000) will still take a charge, but doesn't last more than 15 minutes, so I'm not sure if that counts.

C6 and C3 have been known to leak, but the others are all polymer and should be ok. Aren't there display caps, like seven of them?

Do you have another drive you can swap parts with? If so, I'd suggest swapping each of the four IC's from the non-working drive's analog board into the working drive to see if the symptoms follow. The symptoms you describe aren't familiar to me, so it could theoretically be one (or more) of...

Here's a photo of a (kinda worn) Apple-branded Targus bag, which looks a lot like the multi-colored one shown above: Lots of storage, good padding, fits PB's like a glove. A note on the thinly-padded grey bags that are being shared in this thread - those are IIc bags, and are far too big...
