Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

I cannot test the stock SE board (donated to me by Marcus Hesse) until after work tonight. I've only tested the 128K Tour on my SE Reloaded board as of right now. One kind person on FaceBook indicates it happens for him on his stock SE board though... (he has the old ROMs, just like my SE...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

I should mention one other thing that is not related to SCSI... I am able to get very old versions of macOS to run on the SE Reloaded board, including System 0.97 & Finder 1.0. However, I tested the 400K Macintosh 128K Guided Tour floppy just now, and although it boots to the main menu fine...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

When I booted into System 7.1 (freshly installed version from 800K disks, compatible with the Mac SE) from my BlueSCSI and then double-click FWB Hard Disk Toolkit 2.0.6, it crashes with the following error... And when I double-click the FWB SCSI Configure app, I get an "address error."...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Yes. I have tested it with a BlueSCSI and with a MacSD, using System Picker to switch between System 6, 7.0.1, 7.1, and 7.5.5.

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

No need for MacTest because, like I said, I used my TechStep to fully diagnose all ports. I did attempt to use MacTest SE earlier today to satisfy my curiosity; however, it cannot complete the logic board tests because it requires a special loopback cable and a special SCSI board which I do not...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

I left my stock, working SE board (donated to me by Marcus Hesse) at the office., and I am here at home now testing my SE Reloaded board. My SE Reloaded board checks out fine with my TechStep and basically every other test I've conducted, but SCSI Director Pro puzzles me. It throws an Address...

Everything you wanted to know about the BBU, but were afraid to ask...

I must apologize for having allowed this important thread on the "BBU" to sway quite a bit; but to get back on topic, if any of you have more insider information on Bob Bailey (above and beyond what a Google search will yield), please share those stories. It would probably take a current or...

Everything you wanted to know about the BBU, but were afraid to ask...

To be honest, I need one of those tubes spanning the Pacific because good Mexican food is very hard to come by here Japan. Being originally from the state of California, I get the taco Tuesday urges here a lot. I need @trag to tube me a burrito! 🌯 🌯 🌯

Everything you wanted to know about the BBU, but were afraid to ask...

At NASA, @trag was responsible for interrogating a highly advanced alien race who came to earth through what scientists call "a dent in in the universe," desperately seeking knowledge about why Apple computers are so delightfully different.

Bourns Again - Bourns 601 Series RC Network T-Filters Replacement

My SE Reloaded Part II video is where I solder in the 4 Bourns filters, so if you would be willing to kindly help out the community with the sale of 4 or 8pcs at a time, feel free to post a comment under that video and I will make it a pinned comment for people to perpetually see. I feel that is...

problem with MicroMac accelerator in SE

Not sure one can do that kind of fix right without proper magnification. Honestly, I wish I could afford one of those amazing dual optic microscopes that Bruce and Mac84 use. Those are amazing, but so is the price tag! I don't do teensy tiny SMD work for a living, so I cannot justify that...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

For those of you who don't know, I accidentally put my beloved Daystar Turbo040 into the topmost PDS slot of the TS Adapter instead of the Cache slot on the side. That caused a short in at least one place and fried a chip. Amazingly, Joethezombie was able to source that chip, shipped some to...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I normally use this 100% (not 99.9%) version sold on Amazon Japan: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/product/B009GE3YH2 But for the bathroom dunking shown in my Part III video, I did use this 99.9% stuff: https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/gp/product/B0B1M8SK8N/ No, there's no noticeable difference...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Thankfully 100% (not that weak 99% stuff 🤣) IPA did wonders to get flux off my SE Reloaded board. As you can see here, I used a toothbrush and soaked it for a half hour. Plastic parts seemed to have come through just fine. I was a tad worried about the electrolytic capacitors (you don't want to...

Apple TechStep Replacement ROMs, cartridges, software, and more!

I should have used different wording, sorry. Glad you didn't take it the wrong way. What I should have typed: The more people involved in actually building this project the merrier! Kudos, Gavin!

Looks fantastic! The fact that we now have folks like yourself building cartridges makes this project all the more exciting!

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Separate topic... I did my first power on test of the SE Reloaded board while filming. To my delight, I got a display, the arrow pointer, the flashing disk icon, and the startup bong. However, the bong is longer than normal as shown in the short video clip below. I've heard a similar...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Now that I can understand, with the inductors acting as chokes on the ground. But the SE board only has that single trace from what I can see, which is rather odd, don't you think?

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Yes, "chassis" or "metal frame" ground is supposed to be Earth ground, which requires a 3-prong power cord. Sadly, here in Japan, 3-prong outlets are extremely rare in most homes. It doesn't affect normal operation of the Mac, of course. It just means chassis ground isn't Earth ground.
