Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

You have Motherboard Creator & Polo Shirt Maker Extraordinaire, @Kai Robinson , to thank for that. He very graciously sent it to me. I like it!

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

The SE Reloaded build continues in my Part II video... Many thanks to Kai, who was very helpful during the making of both videos to date. Stay tuned for Part III!

Converting from CRT to LCD and updating video output in Compact Macs

@retr01 How are the reflections when using that acrylic sheet versus the antireflective stock CRT? Although an LCD will be more crisp and pixel perfect than a CRT, I'm curious if the reflections diminish the overall look of the screen. No doubt it's more reflective than even some older iMacs...

I’ll be sure to present that info in my Part II video, Kai. Thank you!

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Alex, the single biggest problem I have in recommending JLCPCB, PCBWay, etc. is the fact they all require you to build 5pcs minimum of any PCB. So while the cost of one matte black SE Reloaded PCB (with Gold ENIG pads) at PCBWay, for example, is reasonable, what individual user needs 5pcs...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Here is my SpeedCard benchmark results, also booted into System 6.0.8, but from an overclocked MacSD, also with 68881 FPU, and both settings in the SpeedCard Control Panel enabled. (My motherboard ROMs & IWM are an older set that do not supper 1.44MB drives.) Speedometer 3.23 Basically the...

    Macintosh Portable Battery Adapter

Fantastic project! My problem is that I don't yet have a Macintosh Portable. I've always wanted a backlit one. I just never pulled the plug on a purchase, mainly because of its reliance on that battery which I thought might be trouble to maintain. But this project sounds like a very...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Alex, it comes in colors other than Red only when you use the Gerber files on Kai's Github page to have your own board made at a PCB maker like PCBWay, JLCPCB, etc. I will eventually mention that in one of my videos in this series.

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Someone replied in the Audacity forum to suggest I use track Spectrogram view to more clearly see the noise... The upper track is the noisy track (SpeedCard enabled) in the Spectrogram views below. Changing it to grayscale makes the vertical bands in the noisy audio even more clear...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

To accomplish that, @Kay K.M.Mods would need to connect an audio recorder to his Carrera040 SE/30 using a cable with two 1/8" jacks at either end, and then record the same sound at either 16-bit 44KHz or 48kHz, with and without the Carrera enabled, just as I did. Might be nice if WinterGames...

Identifying and confirming fake 68040 CPUs (especially the L88M mask)

Another seller from China too, I see. Interesting how all the sellers who have genuine pulls are based in China. I guess that means nobody outside China pulls and sells 040 CPUs?

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Zane, I've never used that Audacity feature before, but I am now trying to understand it via the following process... 1. Launch Audacity. 2. New document. 3. Generate > Tone... 4. Sine / 100Hz / 0.8 / 30s / OK 5. Select All 6. Copy 7. Tracks > Add New > Mono Track 8. Paste 9. Analyze > Plot...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Zane, here are the 16-bit 48kHz audio files for you (Mono). WinterGames "Opening Ceremony" audio. (SE volume set to 3, D-100 recording level set to 5.5.) SpeedCard Enabled (bad sound) SpeedCard Disabled (good sound) (Right-click the ">>" and choose Download Audio from the popup menu. You...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I don't own that Carrera040, so I cannot say for sure. I sent Kay a message, asking him to reply to your question here. I can only say my SE/30 doesn't have any sound issues with the Daystar Turbo040, or socketed Daystar PowerCache, or PDS DiiMO accelerator cards. Apparently, only the...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Per your request, I will attempt to record a 48kHz, 16-bit WAV or AIFF (LCPM) file for you tonight or tomorrow using my D-100 recorder. If you are ultimately able to solve the distorted sound problem, it really would be magical. @Kay K.M.Mods has told me many times about his Carrera040 card...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I will try to make time to do that either tonight or tomorrow. I have a Sony D-100 Audio Recorder with a line level 1/8" input jack. It might work with the headphone output of the SE if I reduce the volume very low. I will experiment and see what happens. If the voltage level is low enough...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

A very kind soul donated an entire SE motherboard with RAM and a SuperMac SpeedCard installed (16MHz 68000 with 68881 FPU!), and I had a chance to test it this evening. Two points of interest... 1. The card can be disabled without opening the Mac, simply by switching on the Mac's power...

    Reinforce case tabs

Bruce, it's been years since I've opened my HD20, and since you mentioned those two tabs, I'd love a refresher. The MacGUI blog says this... But that isn't specific enough. Pressing on them a tiny bit with my flat head screwdriver doesn't magically allow the lid to be lifted. What is your...

My MacSD Upgrade for the Colour Classic [and Stereo Mod]

Thanks for sharing. Hopefully the chip is authentic, because the price (without shipping) is just under $10. That seller in Florida is great for folks in the US (if the chip is genuine), but shipping fees make it a bad deal overall for those overseas... And that's really why most people...

My MacSD Upgrade for the Colour Classic [and Stereo Mod]

Where did you order it from? Do you have a photo of the chip you bought? This makes me curious about SOURCING. I see one on EBAY for a cheap price and with nice markings, but two questions arise: 1. Is that photo of the real chip, but you will receive something very different? 2. If the...
