WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Does someone still make something like a Killy Clip that would connect the accelerator to the Plus CPU?

SE accelerator - what am I looking at?

The CPU is the square chip in the center, if you zoom in it says 68000. That's the same one I'm looking at on eBay, I requested the additional photos from the seller.

SE accelerator - what am I looking at?

I'm looking at this old 16mhz 68000 accelerator for an SE, and I can't quite figure out what's going on with the PDS connector. I know this style of male PDS connector with just exposed pins and no plastic surround wasn't uncommon, @JDW said he has a board with a similar connector. What I...

    HyperDrive troubleshooting

I have a 512k with a 20mb HyperDrive I picked up a few months back, the HyperDrive was non-functional when I bought it. The drive itself did not work, a component on the controller board (the board on the drive, not the HyperDrive daughterboard) had melted and damaged the board. I just picked...

Why to be careful with acidic flux - IIsi logic board

I recently picked up an IIsi off the local classifieds as a project, knowing it (and the PSU) will need a recap. Someone had already done the 50mhz oscillator upgrade, so that was a plus - until I cleaned the board and started inspecting it. When I turned it over I saw corrosion around the...

Problem with Total Systems '030 accelerator in Plus

I'm not using a killy clip any more, I have pin headers soldered to the 68000, and the socket on the accelerator slips over those pins. I checked continuity between the pin headers and the base of the 68000 legs and it seems like all the pin header solder joints are good. I used deoxit to clean...

Problem with Total Systems '030 accelerator in Plus

I haven't recapped it, it may have been recapped 30 years ago, but definitely not recently.

Problem with Total Systems '030 accelerator in Plus

I adjusted the voltage and unfortunately there was no change. I went up to 12.1v & 5.03v without the accelerator, with the accelerator it dropped down to 11.95v & 4.82v. I also turned it up a bit more until I had 5.0v and 12.2v, no change. The voltage was pretty steady, fluctuating about...

Problem with Total Systems '030 accelerator in Plus

Thanks Bolle, I checked the voltages at the floppy port with the internal floppy disconnected, they are a bit low: Without accelerator: 4.76, 11.66 With accelerator: 4.72, 11.61 I'll try adjusting the voltage today after work and report back.

Mac SE Radius '020 25mhz Benchmark Results

No I haven't done any disk-specific benchmarks. The "stock" SE in the comparison was the accelerated SE with the accelerator disabled, I might try running the same benchmark on one of my non-accelerated SEs and see if I get the same low results. Maybe the low disk score had to do with the...

Mac SE Radius '020 25mhz Benchmark Results

I thought someone here might be interested in some benchmark results from my accelerated SE. The machine has a Radius 25mhz 68020 accelerator with 68881 FPU. 4mb RAM, spinning-platter HD. The SE/30 used in the tests has 8mb RAM, Mac SD drive, and a Radius 40mhz 68030 accelerator. Both...

    HyperDrive 20 troubleshooting

No updates yet, it's been moved to the back burner for the moment. I really need to get my hands on a working IDE MiniScribe 8425 or equivalent, I know a guy who may have something but I probably can't get to his place for a month or two. Those drives on eBay are close to $100 and sold as-is...

    HyperDrive 20 troubleshooting

Great thanks for the info, please do update as you work on the drive! I actually just got a Miniscribe 8425 working yesterday, unrelated to the one I talk about further up, this is a SCSI version out of an SE. It was having trouble seeking and wouldn't boot, the stepper motor would just go...

GCC Technologies FI/30 internal HD for Mac SE

Somewhat related, can a 1.44mb drive be used in place of an 800k drive and still read/write 800k disks? I have a spare 1.44mb drive I'm going to clean up and see if it works, and I have a Plus with an 800k drive that isn't working properly. I thought I had read that you could swap the 1.44mb...

My Weird Dual Floppy Macintosh 512K

Wow thank you for posting this, I have been looking for this info for years. Back in the early 90s I was at a Boeing Surplus auction and saw a whole pallet of these machines, yet no one on the forums had ever heard of them. I was starting to question my sanity. If anyone knows of one of these...

Great thanks, I spent longer than I'd like to admit looking for a component labeled U1F. 😅

Problem with Total Systems '030 accelerator in Plus

Thanks Kai, I'll reflow the P1 connector pins and look at U3 when I get a chance, hopefully this weekend. I'm not clear on the part about checking U1F, U2F, and U2G. My technical knowledge of these machines is somewhat surface-level. I didn't see parts U1F, U2F, or U2G on the Plus AB, but...

Problem with Total Systems '030 accelerator in Plus

I tried a known-good analog board with the same results - no change. I also don't know when/if this AB has ever been recapped, but the fact the behavior was the same makes me think it's not the AB. I was able to confirm the buzzing is coming from the speaker and not the caps.

Problem with Total Systems '030 accelerator in Plus

I hadn't thought about the AB, if it has been recapped it was 25+ years ago. I have a couple other working machines I can swap boards with.
