I suppose I could put it inside, but it's my "Let's see if I can get this machine to boot" device. I have it in a 3d printed case with a portable battery pack and I plug it into devices as needed to test and /or load software on.
I haven't tried the SCSI ethernet emulation on the CC, but I...
Alternatively, if @JDW wants to make a YouTube video on recapping the Color Classic analog and logic boards, I'd be happy to ship him my boards as demonstration devices. ;)
Real-time update: I tool the board out to take a picture, and decided to see if bad RAM could be causing the problem. I also thought I remember the Color Classic having RAM on the board. So I removed both RAM sticks and put the board back in, and fired it up. The Mac startup chime was still...
I picked up a Color Classic this past weekend and it would not boot at all. However, the fans would power up if I removed the logic board and plugged it in. I started looking closer at the board, which appeared to be in pretty good shape (PRAM battery had been removed, didn't notice any damage...
Ha. I was so focused on trying to find a dot or line on the board, I didn't look closely at the socket. And the chip has one corner that is diagonal as well. I'll give that a shot, and swap out the extension for the FPU version and see if I can get it to work. Thanks!
I recently got a MacSE and upon opening it up realized it had an accelerator board plugged into the PDS slot. It was labeled as a PerformerPro by Harris International. The hard drive had died, and I was unable to retrieve the software off a floppy I found included with the computer. So when...
I have a NeXT station I’ve had since college that I turn on occasionally. The hard drive started acting up a while back and I replaced it with a SCSI2SD. Other than that, it’s still original. The display is a little dim, but still work.
Should I recap it. Replace the battery holder with a...
Yeah, I originally considered trying to add a top shelf above my unit, but I’m thinking a taller, multi-tier shelf unit may be in order. Have this one for devices I used regularly, but the shelf could be for devices not plugged in or ready to use.
Sadly no plans. I kind of winged it, since...
That's awesome to hear. I'll see if I can get it to work on the MacOS 9 side. I'd kind of resigned myself to using the old 10" iPad screen, but my eyesight isn't what it used to be and that is really small. If I can get SwitchResX on the older side, and possibly only have to pay for a few OS X...
Yeah, I've got the i7 model and the previous owner had swapped the HD for an SSD already, so it works really well with ElCap. I'll probably leave it in that state, since I prefer my vintage machines to keep an OS appropriate to the device - I have newer OS X devices I can run if needed. It's...
Yeah, I used a separate thermometer to test and feel pretty certain that I was between 395-400 degrees. I may scout out a toaster oven for this, as it's probably safer and more efficient. And using a independent thermometer would allow me to verify the temperature, so no need to worry if the...
True, it was a PCI based PowerPC machine. However, I'd argue that there are very little other similarities as it was an All-In-One, had an LCD and trackpad, the Bose bass unit, etc. I still feel like it deserves to be separate from the beige PCI PowerPC Macs.
Yeah, I guess that makes the most sense, since it shares much of the architecture with those.
I feel like Jony Ive would be offended by classifying the TAM as beige!
I recently added a TAM to my collection and would love a place to chat about it here. I didn't see a great subforum for it and think there should be one added. Maybe it's too small of a market, since not many were made, but I've got to believe those of us with working ones want to work...
I enjoyed the part about the packaging. I recently bought a Twentieth Anniversary Mac and had to have it shipped and was very concerned. The guy paid to have Fedex do it and I've never seen something so meticulously packaged. Each piece separately wrapped, and the spaces around the wrapped...
Yeah, replacement was my backup plan if the baking didn't work. We'll see how long it lasts, but I'm hoping the longer bake (10 minutes) along with the higher quality thermal paste, and running the fans at a bit higher rate will make it last through casual usage.
I'm trying to be smarter...
@CrazyTechReviews , Would you be willing to cross post that file to Thingiverse? I've found a lot of helpful 3d parts there and it is the first place many people look for 3d models.
