SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (2025 Edition)

AirplaneHome linked it, but it was also in the original post, as well. (I keep that updated with the relevant info.) Only replied just in case people were watching this topic to know to give it a look. The patched firmware file is also attached to the OP, as well.

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (2025 Edition)

Replying to this because we've just had a major breakthrough in the SATA market: dosdude1 did what he does best and actually patched out the EEPROM check for the Seritek/Firmtek 1S2 ROM, so now it should be possible to use it in *ALL* EEPROMs, so long as they're 512K. I don't have the means to...

Apple Thermal Transfer Printer aka Iic Scribe repair and cartridge info

So I ripped apart my pretty busted up Scribe to find a TEC chip on it. Markings are TEC 7293-9137 EC-9137 8427AAA JAPAN This is the dump from that chip, taken in Xgpro with a TL866II+, though because the TEC chip wasn't in its database I set it to the Intel D27128. So your mileage may vary.

Radeon 7000 and 7.6.1 issues (Code fragment could not be prepared)

Unfortunately, those did the very same thing. Install great, but hang at the code fragment error.

Radeon 7000 and 7.6.1 issues (Code fragment could not be prepared)

Wondering if anyone has any experience with this because I'm hitting a brick wall. Not sure if this Radeon 7000 is retail or not, but it does have the DVI and S-Video ports on board (and I used to have one that was JUST VGA). I'm trying to get 7.6.1 working on my 9600/300, and the one thing I'm...

    Tsunami motherboard L2 cache card?

Not sure if it's the same on other Tsunami boards, but I know on the 9600 there's actually a resistor on the board that can be desoldered to disable the onboard cache entirely. Though at least for NewerTech cards, the drivers do dance around it effectively and remap the logic board L2 as L3 cache.

    Tsunami motherboard L2 cache card?

Just seeing this now and hmmmmm. I'm kinda deep into building up my 9600 (though it's irrelevant now because mine has since been upgraded to a Kansas architecture board) and this whole rabbit hole makes me wonder if the L2 module for the PowerTower could be used on the 9600 for whatever reason...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (2025 Edition)

Bringing this thread back from the dead to say I've added an update to the guide pertaining to the AliExpress SIL3112s. Specifically, whoever or whatever makes these cards does a crap job of it, so if you have one of these cards and it's giving you trouble, I'd resolder all the capacitors. At...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (2025 Edition)

So I actually made a very interesting discovery with those cards that Garth gave me to poke around with: They actually work. But not in any of my OW Macs. I tried them in my MDD. Both came up fine with no issues, complete with OS 9 support because of the firmware. But if I put them in my beige...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (2025 Edition)

Speaking of the beige G3 minitower... Due to the generosity of one Garth Beagle I actually received another one of these cards to mess with. Actually, two. Because he couldn't get his original one to work. And sadly, I think we got a bad batch. Programmed the chips fine and at first one of them...

Documenting an Interware Booster G3 (Now with driver attached!)

Ha, I actually just saw you put up a video about the Booster G3 for the 1400. Guessing you were in the Interware rabbit hole, too? But that's good to know. The images out there of the PCI Power Mac-compatible Interware cards almost look like they COULD have said Vimage on them instead of...

Documenting an Interware Booster G3 (Now with driver attached!)

Just posting this stuff before I forget since it seems like relatively little is known about this card. I plan on getting the drivers and cross posting them as well so we have our own copy as I had to search a bit to find the thread with the right drivers (Booster v1.2.2) Anyway, photos along...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (2025 Edition)

Part of the motivation to do this write up is to document what worked for me and have all the relevant info in the right place. I had been deep diving into this for hours, questioning myself the entire way and having a difficult time because it felt like each piece of critical information was...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (2025 Edition)

An update to this: I managed to snag a SIL3114 and 3512 at my friend's shop, both cards destined for the bin. There are suggestions 'round the net that the 3512 can MAYBE take the SeriTek firmware and work as if it were a 3112. I plan on trying this once I get compatible chips again. (I'm going...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (2025 Edition)

It's a pipe dream, but I'd love to absolutely load this thing with RAM as I've only got 128MB in it at the moment, I have more RAM coming, but not the maximum this machine can take. Which hey, that's totally fine. I know I also need to put a better video card in it too, I swapped the stock IMX...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (2025 Edition)

First off, why even do this? (2025 Edition) Before I explain, if you want it quick and to the point...if you came to me asking me "hey xodium, would SATA be a good idea for my Mac? Should I seek out one of these cards?", my advice would be as follows: Beige PCI Power Mac (not including the G3)...

Documentation for DB15 to VGA adapters

Since this comes up in Google, I thought I'd put this here for the Unimac 82D. Thought I knew where my little instruction thing went but I guess I lost it. Was going to just get a cleaner scan because my brain had an outright headache trying to make out some of the numbers, so I just took a...

DIP Switch settings for a NewerTech MaxPowr G4 CPU (for beige G3/G3 BW/Yikes G4)

First, I had completely forgotten I had posted this, my oh my. I got wrapped up in some projects that went sideways and meant to update this. So what actually had happened was I forgot to account for the bus speed difference between the beige G3 and the B/W G3. So...the problem was that with...

DIP Switch settings for a NewerTech MaxPowr G4 CPU (for beige G3/G3 BW/Yikes G4)

Originally this topic was about how I couldn't get my G4 upgrade card working in a B/W G3. Initially, I thought something weird was going on with the board revision and such, but discovered (thanks, dosdude1) that the switches on the card weren't set right, and the card was trying to run...

    ModBook Install Disc archived

Hi all, Wanted to share that I've archived (on archive.org, I've tried to upload to Macintosh Garden but can't, the uploader just gets stuck) a OS X install disc intended for the Axiotron Modbook. I had one in my care a few years ago and it had one disc with it, there might be another. I am...
