    Help with capacitor compatibility

Yikes. Yeah, that may be an issue. Not sure what I'd do about if no local places carry that value.

    Help with capacitor compatibility

There is a 3.9uf capacitor linked in the mouser cart the JDW supplied, and yes, capacitance must be the same.

    Help with capacitor compatibility

Yes, it should be. The voltage is the maximum that the capacitor can handle, running it at lower voltages will be fine for an electrolytic cap.

    PowerBook 5xx clutch cover clips

Hah, just edited my post before yours having just found it. Thank you for your help! I will note for anyone who's come across this thread in the future: The hinge fix part itself made by gregorhouse has an error in it - it should have cut-outs for 2 structural bits in the display housing, but...

    PowerBook 5xx clutch cover clips

You've appeared to post the same link for both, both being the front bezel clips that Action Retro made (That I don't have any current issues with). If you've actually found a template than I will thank you for eternity! Edit: FOUND IT! I've seen this one before, but always missed that it also...

    2023 PowerPC Challenge!

I don't know if I could dedicate 2 weeks of using PPC as much as possible for everything, but over the next week or so I might see how much I can get done with my 17" DLSD G4. Does anyone know of a way to get a google drive desktop volume running on Leopard? If that's possible then I could use...

Here we go again... (PowerBook 100 Recap/Restore)

Caps aren't actually getting here until tomorrow now, and I'm not going to be around to work on it until Monday afternoon so no updates until then. And then of course those last 2 caps I didn't realize I needed won't get here until wednesday... I'll bet if I could figure out which ones are used...

Here we go again... (PowerBook 100 Recap/Restore)

This post is a collection of multiple posts from 68kMLA that I'm cross-posting to the threads here and on VCF all in one go. Post #1: Still got a bunch of pad cleaning to do, but all caps are now off the logic board, and the pads are mostly clean! I twisted them off as I haven’t gotten a...

Here we go again... (PowerBook 100 Recap/Restore)

It has arrived! And it made it in one piece. It was packed with tons of bubble wrap (although somewhat insecurely), but all parts arrived in great shape. The seller also packed the trackball separately as I requested. I plugged in the PowerBook and it immediately started up to the blue/black...

    PowerBook 5xx clutch cover clips

Just need someone to design the part. I want to learn 3D modeling this year but this is a very tricky part to start with.

    PowerBook 5xx clutch cover clips

Has anyone designed 3D printed replacements for these? I’m going to be fixing a couple of 500 series hinges but this cover isn’t going to stay put like this. Should be as simple as designing a part to clue onto the curved bit of the plastic but I would know how to measure the curve to do it myself.

    Mac Classic Checkerboard

You’ve verified it works with the correct voltages and another logic board? If so, broken trace near the RAM would be my next guess.

    Mac Classic Checkerboard

First thing you should do is check the voltages off the hard drive molex connector. Put a multimeter in the first and 3rd pin and then the 2nd and 4th pin, these will be your 5 and 12v rails, not sure which is which. If they're too low or too high, you've got analog board issues.

Busting a PowerBook 500 series battery open

Well that was quick. Ripped the membrane slightly near the bottom left but not all the way so it *should* be fine. Both should be recoverable but I’ll start by just rebuilding one hopefully later this month.

Busting a PowerBook 500 series battery open

Yeah it definitely is. I’ll bet it’s an early revision as it came from a grayscale 540 which was only sold up to October 1994. I’m cracking the second one open now. Going quicker this time since I know how now, and I’m taping it as a tutorial of sorts. This one’s leaked more but it should be...
