Well yes, but they use the same screen so the signals are compatible. If there’s a better screen for the TAM, it should also work in the 3400.

P/N of the screen in my 3400 was the Sharp LQ12S11. @Action Retro said in his TAM video that his screen was a Samsung IIRC, so there may be more than one vendor.

Don't underestimate the value of a very thorough cleaning. It can solve a lot of problems. Already cleaned it? Do it again! Both sides of the board. Check for bad traces/shorts anywhere. Could be one leg on a chip that isn't making good contact that's causing the display not to refresh as it should.

Today, I swapped this old clunker out of my PowerBook 180c, replacing it with a BlueSCSI. The 180c is a lot faster now!

Update for anyone viewing this with the same issue - it's a voltage issue. Adjusting the front voltage potentiometers somewhat fixes it, although I haven't been able to get it perfect, but I've gotten it so that it does this when it's first been started up and then goes back to normal after...

don't forget to get that PRAM battery out! They blow up.

rechargeables at the time were often NiMH, and they will absolutely leak. Haven't heard of them being in Compaqs, but most other brands have used them at the time.

Out of curiosity, what type of battery was the CMOS battery? A lot of laptops of the time used NiMH varta packs that leak. Not sure about Compaq, but Toshiba, Dell, IBM and Apple all did.

Are they surface mount caps? If so, it doesn't matter how low voltage or cool they are, they will fail and leak. Even if they are through-hole caps, they can still fail. As long as they aren't surface mounted, you should be ok as long as it works (as Stephen said), but if they're surface mount...

Hard disks? Not since around 2011 IIRC and newer hard disks also won't work in the early G3s
