    Apple ][ Card Audio Characteristics

Good afternoon folks! Does anyone have... 1. An LC family Macintosh like the LC 475 or older... 2. An Apple II LC PDS card 3. An oscilloscope 4. Some spare time! I'm curious to find out about the electrical characteristics of the audio output from the card. It comes out of the card on Pin A1...

    Drop-In G4 CPU transplant: To G3 B/W from G4 Yikes possible?

Hum, so a little bit of info on the Sonnet cards - they actually ignore the CPU clock multiplier and just do their own thing, so that wouldn't matter, although the bus speed would, and compatibility might need checking for that to make sure they rated the specific part to 100MHz. If we assume...

    Drop-In G4 CPU transplant: To G3 B/W from G4 Yikes possible?

Apple put a check in the firmware on the B&W G3 that checks if the CPU is a G4 (they knew they were on the way ahead of time). It blocks booting if it detects one. Processor upgrade manufacturers made firmware patches that fixed this, but you need to install them before you swap out the G3 for...

Quadra 800 "Wombat" overclocking - options

@Kai Robinson There is an odd thing I've noticed - when an image is mostly shades of grey (like a beige Mac), sometimes the forum de-saturates it. See the post I'm linking to. I uploaded the photo of the C650... then I noticed the apple badges went desaturated, so I deleted and reuploaded...

WomBOOST - Very Small Performance Boost for your Wombat

Folks, feedback from someone with a 40MHz 650 is that the extension actually slightly slows down CPU execution, so I suspect the apple RAM timings specifically are already quite tight. It did slightly speed up video though. At some point I'll drag my 650 out and set it up, until then this is...

WomBOOST - Very Small Performance Boost for your Wombat

It isn't an alternative - it doesn't touch the clock speed. Only the mini wombats, the 475 / 575s have the programmable bus clock. If you have a 475 or 575, you wouldn't. If you have any other kind of Wombat, the 475 Overclock stuff doesn't work on them.

WomBOOST - Very Small Performance Boost for your Wombat

This is a test release of a slightly underwhelming System Extension that tweaks the memory timings of a Wombat family mac to speed them up. This extension should work on.... the 475, 476, 575, 577, 605, 610, 650 and 800. Just to warn you, I only saw about 3% performance lift overall, although...

Quadra 800 "Wombat" overclocking - options

Thanks for the update. If you do have any stability issues, they might be most cheaply resolved by just adding a fan to the heatsink. The chipset is designed to handle 40MHz and so should be happy. One other issue I had was that I found that some of my RAM didn't like running at 40MHz, I'm not...

Quadra 800 "Wombat" overclocking - options

Excellent news - that was quick :) Your Centris should now be just a hair faster than a Quadra 840av! What System version are you using? Did you use my System Enabler? What type of jumper did you use? Do you have a picture of the jumper you fitted?

(You'll have to forgive me - I made several edits to my last post, so make sure you read the final version)

Quadra 800 "Wombat" overclocking - options

Mine actually started as a 25MHz machine :) I've run it all the way up to 50MHz with various mods. Strangely, it is easier to convert a 25MHz machine to 40MHz than to 33MHz. I'd actually recommend going to 40MHz rather than 33. 1. If you're running System 7.1, install the System Enabler I...

Quadra 800 "Wombat" overclocking - options

Good morning @AlpineRaven. If you don't mind, I'll have a go at answering. I have a soft spot for Wombat family machines. That's fun - my dad has a Quadra 650 in a IIcx case in a similar manner. One thing to start with - I've heard that DOS cards work in over clocked machines - but I don't have...

    Marchintosh 2024: Overclocking a Centris 650

If you're aiming for 40MHz, there are much easier ways to do it - plus you can use 40MHz timings, so that the serial ports etc keep working. https://elephantandchicken.co.uk/stuffandnonsense/?p=3019

    Any interest in Palm Pilots?

I wouldn't say it was dead - Dmitry and a few others are still doing interesting projects, hardware and software. https://dmitry.gr/?r=05.Projects&proj=27.+rePalm https://palmpowerups.com/articles.html https://palmdb.net/

    Any interest in Palm Pilots?

I have a couple of different ones, but have a soft spot for the 68k based ones. The guy who wrote Chipmunk Basic for Mac also wrote palm software, including a Basic Interpreter called yBasic or HotPawBasic.

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

Hum, I think you're getting muddled there - the LC 475 is very different to the LC III. The LC and LC II were very similar to each other, but the LC 475 has more in common with the Quadra 610, 650 and 800. Even then the chipset isn't that similar... just related. The LC III has much lower (what...

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

This is an LC 475 with a 128MB module fitted : The memory test takes almost exactly 1 minute with this much RAM.

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

No hardware fix needed - these just work up to 128MB with compatible RAM. Yes... but not more than a minute for 68MB. Something isn't right. Does it chime? Is it the normal chime? So Macs will generally work with Parity RAM, but it doesn't "Use" it - it ignores the parity and just uses it as...

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

I believe so, based on the datasheet. Looks like it is a 64MB SIMM. The LC 475 can take up to a 128MB SIMM, FPM. It should work with that SIMM, although I don't think the lid will fit on the case (I'm pretty sure - so take care).

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

The wait states are changed depending on what bus speed is selected to keep in spec for the speed of the parts used on a stock LC 475. I wrote the software to work with 80ns RAM at 40MHz.
