New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

I've shared everything I can before.

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

The 475 and 575 use a chipset derived from the 650 / 800 chipset. They're all technically spec'd up to 40MHz. There are datasheets floating around.

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

I suspect it isn't what you're thinking, but interestingly @Trash80toG4, only the CPU and PLL aren't rated for 40MHz on the LC 475. I've replaced both of them with 40MHz rated parts on mine, so my 475 is effectively upgraded to a 40MHz machine rather than Overclocked. Memory (RAM, ROM, VRAM) are...

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

The same version should be available in both places, but I'm more likely to forget to update my website than Macintosh Garden. I would start by putting a 40x40mm self adhesive heatsink (something like these : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004497885109.html or these ...

Radius Rocket & SCSI Booster Clones

Surely, you could test RadiusShare to confirm if the card works instead of asking other people to set up specific configurations?

Radius Rocket & SCSI Booster Clones

Yes, RocketWare makes it behave as an accelerator, RocketShare is more like a modern Virtual Machine. If adverts say it can boot from a disk on the booster in RocketWare mode then it must be able to, but... I'm surprised. The Mac, by default, wouldn't know about or be able to see the drive...

Radius Rocket & SCSI Booster Clones

Hum, also, given the booster is on the Rocket's PDS, I'm not sure how you'd be able to boot the IIci from it? Have you tried it in RocketShare? Does it work there?

New LC475 user - Questions on PowerPC upgrades

You might want to try this : https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/control-strip-475-overclock To get it reliable at 40MHz, you'll want to swap the 0 ohm resistor from R96 to R95. For 40MHz you shouldn't need to do anything else, but if you want to go faster you'll need to swap the chip (swap in the...

Do you have the driver for the booster installed? I feel like I remember it had an extra extension.

    6100 Schematic?

Ah right, sure, if it boots to desktop that is a good sign, the card wont do anything without a driver installed. You don't need Mac OS 8. I've run G3 upgrades in System 7.1.2 on my 6100 (although that is being silly, and a later OS would be better, perhaps 7.6.1 or 8.1 if you have enough RAM).

    Mac OS for CHRP systems

Often the System Folders on installer CDs are crippled so they don't work from hard disks. Have you tried just installing it, and making sure the system enabler is in there? Perhaps try adding an iMac age appropriate 'Mac OS ROM' to the system folder for open firmware to find. Out of curiosity...

    6100 Schematic?

If it isn't booting it isn't because of drivers. Without the driver, a 6100 will just boot from its built in processor. Try cleaning the edge contacts and the PDS slot with contact cleaner spray.

    6100 Schematic?

The boards are very similar - The 7100 and 8100 are based on the 6100. The 6100 is close to the prototype for the whole family and late on the team were asked to add a medium and higher end model. At their core, they're all very similar with the main difference being in the memory and nubus...

Possible To Hide Partition From Desktop In Classic Mac OS 8.1 / 7.6.1 / 7.5.5?

I think that works with files and folders, but not disks. ResEdit wont let you select a disk, I assume because it is a device, not an object on a device. "Get Info" is disabled and only enables when you select a file or folder.

Possible To Hide Partition From Desktop In Classic Mac OS 8.1 / 7.6.1 / 7.5.5?

Oh, there is a cunning way to do that. In Drive Setup, select the disk and go to "Customize Volumes..." Then select the partition you don't want to mount. Deselect "Automount on startup" and it wont appear on boot. You can manually mount it using various utilities including Drive Setup, and...

Micromac Performer Clone - Issues with Mac Plus

Oh, another thing, the Total Systems version of that board (same firmware and schematic, different layout) has an auxiliary power header for when you're using it in older macs like the Plus if I remember correctly - is there something similar on the Performer?

Micromac Performer Clone - Issues with Mac Plus

Have you tried http://download.macintoshgarden.org/apps/Gemstart_Universal_7.1.SEA_.hqx. The Performer software is just a rebranded version of GemStart and this is a much newer version that is meant to support all sorts of cards from that family of cards. Not making any promises, but good luck.

Power supply interchangeability between different 68K Macintosh models?

No sorry, unfortunately neither of those would work in a a Quadra 840av to my knowledge. The 840 PSU has a female socket and a cable. Its the same as the one in the 8100, and you can use an 8500 one in it. That's really interesting, I don't have an 800, but I do have an 800 board and I assumed...

    Overclocking a Tanzania / PM 4400

I hadn't, but I had come around to the same information via another route. I have the schematics they're talking about for the 6500 so I can double check things and make sure it matches what I'm seeing on the 4400. I've ordered an SMD 50MHz crystal, it takes longer to dismantle the machine than...
