    SE/30 RAM Banking QUESTION

I wonder whether one of these copper brush electroplating kits might be a reasonable solution. They also have gold, but the price goes up tenfold... Nickel as well, which should be more durable and for such thin layers the difference in conductivity probably doesn't matter...

    7100 L2 Cache SIMM

The crazy thing is that MacSales (OWC) had hundreds of the 256K modules and was selling them for about $.25 each if you bought a hundred or so. All gone now. I don't know what they did with them. Probably scrapped. I kept thinking about buying a lot, but couldn't think of any use for SRAM...

    Short on 7100/66AV logic board

What resistance are you seeing between the pads? There are normal conductive paths through the MB compents between the GND and Power layers. So you can't expect an open (infinite resistance) between those pads. Typical resistance is actually surprisingly low. But I can't remember if...

Apple Performa Plus 14-inch Display power switch issue and workaround

That monitor commonly blew its internal fuse for no real reason. If it hasn't already been replaced, you may need to do so.

Printing to ImageWriter II from MacBook Pro

Maybe one of the old print servers that had a parallel port? Not sure about getting the drivers sorted out though.

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

I still think converting the HP A2580 RAM module would be the easiest solution although @johnklos 's idea is probably about as simple. Makes me nervous splitting the address space like that, though it shouldn't... I suspect the A2580 is a little cheaper than the HP D4290. The A2580 are...

    Quadra 950 - bezel colour?

There was a thread around here (I think*) on filament, available from Amazon, which closely matches the color Apple used. *I know the thread exists; I'm not certain it was on these forums.

Workgroup Server 9150 Freezes Without Additional Cooling - Can anyone check their WGS VR temps?

Kind of late replying... The voltage regulators are resistance based rather than Buck or Switching type. That means that they basically convert all the excess voltage to heat to get the desired voltage. So it's not surprising they get hot. I've seen similar issues on the PowerMacintosh...

Early History of IIci ROM Fabrication w/Gamba: For JDW

Yes, the desire was for a reliable supply of 32-bit clean ROMs for the SE/30 to enable the various functions that require that. The IIfx and IIsi were the focus because there were actual ROM modules for those two machines in the wild. There were no IIci ROM modules (all soldered to main...

My PowerMac 7100/80 AV Recap Project

There's a thread around here somewhere all about how to find various connectors. Lists part numbers and sources for things like CPU slots and power connectors. I think Phoenix Enterprises has the ADB port, IIRC. https://www.peconnectors.com/audio-dc-power-mini-din/hws3276/

Bringing 9.x extensions back to 8.6 (including Radeon 9200 drivers!)

I did this for 8.6 with the Radeon 7000 drivers way back when. IIRC, the R7000 came out after OS 9 was out, so they never had "official" support for 8.6 and earlier, but it largely worked just fine. It just wasn't "officially" supported.

    120GB SSDs in G4 Cube

I bought several of the Orico 128 and 256 MSATA drives while they were on sale. I tested them last weekend to see if I had any failures before return dates expire. I was testing on a Windows machine and I'm no expert on disk formatting/initializing preparation, but perhaps someone can make...

Purchased a 400mhz G3 ZIFF Upgrade CPU but after installation G3 Still reports 266Mhz

I went looking for where -5V is actually used some time ago, and couldn't find anywhere. It was not a deep search and I was focusing on X500 (7500/8500/9500) machines at the time. As far as I could tell, the ATX conversion articles at xlr8yourmac.com (have to use Wayback) don't list -5 as...

PowerCache Card in IIci -- Why So Slow?

Yes. I felt like I was wrong there, but couldn't remember where I was going wrong. AIX, I think was what the ANS ran. Anyway, yes, I meant A/UX.

PowerCache Card in IIci -- Why So Slow?

Unfortunately, in Mac OS, Apple never took advantage of the IOPs on the ports. There's a pass-through software path that ignores the IOPs and just goes direct to the serial and SCSI chips, etc. and that's what the Mac OS uses. Supposedly, AIX had support for the IOPs.

Installing Mac OS X Leopard on the Apple TV (1st generation)

Some old articles/websites I had bookmarked regarding the original Apple TV: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2011/08/how-to-put-boxee-or-xbmc-on-your-original-apple-tv/#comments-bar Scott Davilla developed tools: ATV USB Creator Tool ATV Bootloader Crystal HD for OSX Not particularly...

PowerCache Card in IIci -- Why So Slow?

I don't know if it affects your situation, but I'll throw out that the IIfx has faster DRAM access, at least for writes, because it buffers the Write operations immediately to free up the CPU to continue about its business. That wouldn't explain a discrepancy between IIci and SE/30 results...

    Recapping a PowerMac 8600 PSU

Mike had a lot of good articles on his site over the years, which are no longer available. I wonder if he would give permission for them to be hosted here? The forums he ran are probably gone forever. There was so much expertise at the time shared there. Sigh.

    Macintosh IIfx Success Story

Definitely. That was about the same time frame when I lucked into a free IIfx on Craigslist. I needed it for my 16 MB RAM SIMM project at the time, which worked out pretty well. Has anyone ever figured out what the jumpers on the IIfx logic board do? As far as I can tell, the computer...

    IIci with no SCSI

Could also be an oxidized/dirty SCSI connector and unplugging/plugging things cleaned it off enough to start working. We've seen a few folks here have SCSI problems caused just by the connector being old and using something like de-oxit fixed it up.
