I have one of these guys and a Control Panel I can dig up for you that gives you some tools. There's also a product called "Virtual" that will let the SE see the memory on the AE card, so you can have an SE with a 68030 and 16MB of RAM.
Also, IIci can be funky with termination power, at least on the internal connector. If you are doing the external device only, I think you need at least a passive terminator on the internal connector.
I found that a drop of xylene (a solvent you can get at a hardware store in the US) does a good job of dissolving the dried up grease on these drives. Just a drop or so from a cotton swab should do the trick.
Do this in a well ventilated area!
I found that isopropyl alcohol doesn't do a good...
In these machines, isn't one battery for the startup circuit, and the other for the PRAM? I didn't think they were both feeding the same circuit, but I could be wrong! :)
