Last thing I did to my a1117 was install a Mercury Accelsior M sata ssd to pcie adapter & the a1047, I was messing around with lubuntu but I think I will transition it to a shuriken Tiger box.

I found this thread on the arch forum with a guy having similar issues with the nvidia driver and 08 mbp. Doesn't look like he perfectly fixed his issues either as he solved for one issue, additional problems/instability popped up but per that thread, the proprietary nvida driver *should* work...
