    ATTO Silicon Express IV Nubus

I have read some comments here and there suggesting the Silicon Express IV is not bootable. I have just acquired one, and I can confirm that it IS in fact bootable, at least on a Quadra 800, which is the only Mac I have thus far tested it in. The same rules apply as with the SE II - it will...

problem with MicroMac accelerator in SE

Don't forget the traces to the pads themselves and the vias they connect to - pretty much all of those look sketchy in your photo.

    Reinforce case tabs

I did basically the same thing with the power/interrupt buttons on my Q800 after one of the latches snapped off and I had to glue it back on again. I cut about 75% of the latch taper away. Still locks in place just fine but with very little deflection required to install or remove it. If you do...

    ATTO Silicon Express II Nubus

    4. It appears to be incompatible with PDS cache cards, or specifically the Daystar FastCache Quadra, and the option to enable the FastCache is grayed out in the QuadControl CDEV when the SEII is installed.

Badly distorted CD audio on Quadra 650/800

Recapping the drive did indeed cure the issue, no more distortion!

Badly distorted CD audio on Quadra 650/800

I'll give that a go if purely for the fun of it, but I should clarify that the drive seems to work perfectly otherwise - I have installed os's from it multiple times in the course of getting this old beast functional! I guess recapping the drive is a fine job for the weekend too!

Badly distorted CD audio on Quadra 650/800

I have a Quadra 650 board converted to a Q800 and installed in my Q800 chassis, with the original caddy loader cd rom drive. System audio on the internal speaker seems to be working completely normally, games etc. all sound fine. Last night, for no particular reason I thought I'd put an audio...

    Is still Hotline a thing?

https://wiki.preterhuman.net/Preterhuman.net_Hotline_Server is still up, it belongs to a member over on 68kmla, I forget his name I'm afraid and not sure if he's a member here or not...

3rd party drivers for old Wacom tables wanted

Assume you're aware of tabletmagic? I used it about 10 years ago to use an old, huge, beige wacom on a G4, and it worked pretty good.

Ultrasonic cleaner appears to have killed my Quadra 650 board....

Already done ;) - in the photo you can just see the wired led poking out from underneath the scsi2sd! This board has been tinkered with before I think, as it had both the onboard led and the header for the 800 led, but also both speaker header places were populated. Maybe that's normal for a...

Ultrasonic cleaner appears to have killed my Quadra 650 board....

Standard I think, although I'm not sure how many different types of heatsink there are or which Quadras came with them. I have two 650/800 boards and a 700. The original 800 board and the 700 both have an extruded aluminium heatsink that clips onto the socket with a seperate clip. This one...

Ultrasonic cleaner appears to have killed my Quadra 650 board....

Sure, excuse the mess, working in a half finished room right now 😁

Ultrasonic cleaner appears to have killed my Quadra 650 board....

I've got the board that died in the ultrasonic cleaner working again. I'm not sure exactly which of the steps below fixed it, but here's what I did: 1. Removed U63 (I think this is the RTC?) and resoldered it. I had previously only poked around the legs of it a bit and concluded they were all...

Ultrasonic cleaner appears to have killed my Quadra 650 board....

Thanks, I'll give it a look over. I kind of suspect there is a trace or two somewhere on the board that was marginal before and is broken now... I would like to think not, but I'm prepared to be wrong. I have US'd boards for quite a bit longer than that before with no issues, but those were...

Ultrasonic cleaner appears to have killed my Quadra 650 board....

Man I am having such bad luck with this. I bought another board recently after multiple failed attempts to fix the scsi bus on my Q800. The board I bought had been battery bombed, but the damage was really minimal and it still worked just fine. It had some very minor trace damage and corrosion...

Sluggish CD eject on iMac G3 (slot loaded)

That would probably work fine. I used one of the permanent red ones simply because that's what I had to hand. Probably any kind of suitable glue would work just as well, but I specifically decided not to use superglue because I was concerned that it might set before I got the gear pushed on the...

    ATTO Silicon Express II Nubus

I recently bought one of these to try out - google turns up almost nothing about this card, so I thought I'd document what I've learned about it. 1. It is bootable, at least on a Quadra 650/800, haven't tried any others yet. It will not find a bootable disk on it's own, but if you boot by some...

Sluggish CD eject on iMac G3 (slot loaded)

The slot loader on my cube had similar problems, I tried the boiling the belt, gluing the roller type fixes, it turned out that the primary gear was slipping on the shaft of the motor. I used a tiny amount of loctite to fix it on the shaft and the drive works perfectly now.

Advice for diagnosing scsi failure on Quadra 800?

An update, External drive was no different, seems the entire subsystem is not working. I bought an active terminator with leds for term power, sel, ack, and req. It shows termpower, but zero activity otherwise. 53C96 seems to be getting correct voltage where it needs it and an active 20MHz...

What is the typical failure mode of resistor networks? (Dale 472G)

Yep, just wishful thinking as it turns out - removed it from the board and it measures good on all legs. Ho hum.
