The black Mac no one asked for (Powermac G3 All-In-One Molar)

I've since upgraded the black AIO to a G4 from a Yikes machine, because that CPU is pin compatible with the G3 CPU in this machine. I figure if I was going to go away from stock, might as well make some more drastic changes. I have been thinking I may have missed an opportunity to match the...

    M3 Keyboard Covers-Recommendations?

Ah, in that case, I think our days of worrying about dust wrecking the fragile butterfly mechanisms in Apple keyboards are over. I've not heard anyone experiencing issues with dust rendering a keyboard unusable since the old butterfly keyboards that were phased out in 2019, I believe. The...

How Embarrassing-A Lesson In Purchasing A Refurbished Computer From Apple's Site

Yeah, that's fair. It does seem odd that you ordered online, chose a pickup location (so they knew how much tax was to be paid), paid an amount. Then, when you went to pick up they charged you just for the tax they could have charged you for with the order. I've never heard of that.

    M3 Keyboard Covers-Recommendations?

Interesting. I generally don't use my laptop when eating or drinking, but it sounds like you may have found a good solution.

How Embarrassing-A Lesson In Purchasing A Refurbished Computer From Apple's Site

Technically you would have had to claim it on your taxes if Apple had allowed you to pay a lower (or no) taxes when you picked it up. Unfortunately, what you tried to do, whether intentionally or not, was a small scale tax fraud. Probably good that Apple simply made sure you paid the correct...

    M3 Keyboard Covers-Recommendations?

I'm pretty sure the answer is to "don't do that". I believe the tolerances are so tight keyboard covers can cause issues. I've never done it so I can't say for or against, just the overwhelming message I've heard on reddit. What are you looking to get out of a keyboard cover?

Best long term solution for powering portables

Agreed that it's more about the effort and ability to create a longer lasting solution. My goal with the voltage adapter is that USBPD has voltage handshaking that these laptops aren't designed to do. Also, some of these power adapters have capabilities to restrict the amperage to not cause...

Best long term solution for powering portables

I just finished re-celling a few iBook G3 battery packs. While this will allow me to use them without being plugged in, and it certainly maximizes the portable nature of these machines, I had a couple thoughts: 1. I do have concerns about the safety of home built packs. I read up on it, bought...

Apple II clone - screen full of apples on boot

Yeah, made some progress and posted updates on another forum. So it appears it is a clone that is using a real Apple II board. The problem appears to have been from a bad socket on one of the first row memory chips. I replaced all the sockets and I can get to the Apple II ] prompt. I tried...

Apple II clone - screen full of apples on boot

I finally got around to trying to figure out this old Apple II clone I picked up some years back (it was one of my first vintage purchases and I had no idea what I was doing). Anyway, it was booting to gibberish on the video out and I read it was likely RAM related. So I removed all the RAM...

I do as well. Unfortunately, I also have 3m of the 1.0mm ID tubing that does not grip the shaft well enough to work. but if anyone needs any, I have plenty of supply as well.

Macintosh IIci video sync problems with modern LCDs

Trying to get my IIsi to output to an LCD and am struggling. I've tried with various dip switch settings in the Sony MacView LX (started with my standard VGA/SVGA mode setting). My Eizo FlexScan S1923 monitor claims to support sync on green. However, I am unable to get it to register any...

    Managing your collections

Actually, I just found out every Mac has an API, but it’d be pretty expensive to do over time. Also, I’d have to be careful about how often I look up information. I’d have to download the info when a device was added versus doing a realtime lookup every time you view a device, which would be...

    Managing your collections

OK, I found yet another Airtable alternative. NoCoDB is promising in that it seems to support nearly everything Baserow does, but it offers row commenting in its free tier. The part I can't determine, is whether there is a dependency on their company. It's also able to be deployed self hosted...

Lisa 2/10 230V PSU jumper settings

I don't have a 240v PSU setup, but I'd imagine the markings are indicating where they should be connected for different input voltages. My guess is someone else tried to switch to 240v and missed that other jumper, frying things in the process.

    SE/30 sound issue

Does the machine stop responding if you try to play certain sounds? I had an SE/30 that had no sound from the speaker or headphone ports. When I opened the sound control panel it would hang (mouse would move, but couldn't click anything. Turned out there was a broken trace from the UE10 chip...
