iMac (Late-2009) Graphics Card Bake Success Story

Yeah, I've got the i7 model and the previous owner had swapped the HD for an SSD already, so it works really well with ElCap. I'll probably leave it in that state, since I prefer my vintage machines to keep an OS appropriate to the device - I have newer OS X devices I can run if needed. It's...

iMac (Late-2009) Graphics Card Bake Success Story

Yeah, I used a separate thermometer to test and feel pretty certain that I was between 395-400 degrees. I may scout out a toaster oven for this, as it's probably safer and more efficient. And using a independent thermometer would allow me to verify the temperature, so no need to worry if the...

    Subforum for Twentieth Anniversary Macs?

True, it was a PCI based PowerPC machine. However, I'd argue that there are very little other similarities as it was an All-In-One, had an LCD and trackpad, the Bose bass unit, etc. I still feel like it deserves to be separate from the beige PCI PowerPC Macs.

    Subforum for Twentieth Anniversary Macs?

Yeah, I guess that makes the most sense, since it shares much of the architecture with those. I feel like Jony Ive would be offended by classifying the TAM as beige!

    Subforum for Twentieth Anniversary Macs?

I recently added a TAM to my collection and would love a place to chat about it here. I didn't see a great subforum for it and think there should be one added. Maybe it's too small of a market, since not many were made, but I've got to believe those of us with working ones want to work...

    Apple II Plus

I enjoyed the part about the packaging. I recently bought a Twentieth Anniversary Mac and had to have it shipped and was very concerned. The guy paid to have Fedex do it and I've never seen something so meticulously packaged. Each piece separately wrapped, and the spaces around the wrapped...

iMac (Late-2009) Graphics Card Bake Success Story

Yeah, replacement was my backup plan if the baking didn't work. We'll see how long it lasts, but I'm hoping the longer bake (10 minutes) along with the higher quality thermal paste, and running the fans at a bit higher rate will make it last through casual usage. I'm trying to be smarter...

New BlueSCSI PDS Card slot bracket for Macintosh SE and SE/30

@CrazyTechReviews , Would you be willing to cross post that file to Thingiverse? I've found a lot of helpful 3d parts there and it is the first place many people look for 3d models.

iMac (Late-2009) Graphics Card Bake Success Story

Figured I would kick off this sub-forum by relaying my success story with resurrecting a late-2009 27" iMac I was given that would boot but displayed nothing on the screen. I found a video from @JDW about the absolutely absurd idea you could possibly fix it by backing the graphics card in the...

Custom resolutions on PowerMac G3/G4 in OS X / 9

Yeah, I saw that utility and it seems like the right solution. I just wish I didn't have to pay $16 per computer to do so. I have 6 computers I want to eventually switch between, so I think it would be cheaper / better for me to see if I can find an old 4:3 monitor to disassemble and install...

Custom resolutions on PowerMac G3/G4 in OS X / 9

Yeah, my LCD controller board must not be publishing the resolution properly, or the KVM is preventing it from doing so. Even worse, the controller board apparently doesn't support anything but 60Hz, and the Macs all want to default to 75Hz, resulting in "Input Not Supported" messages whenever...

    MessagePad 120

Yeah, I had a 130 with the external keyboard I would take on trips to work on papers when I was in college. I kick myself for selling it (along with a lot of my old Apple stuff). I've been looking for a 130 to add to my vintage collection, but they rarely come up on auction sites and are often...

Custom resolutions on PowerMac G3/G4 in OS X / 9

I have a collection of PowerMacs (a couple G3 B&W, and a handful of different types of G4s). I'm trying to set them up with VGA out to a KVM, with the video going to a custom LCD I had from another project that will slide out from under the desk. This will allow me to display my vintage Macs...
