Disk Jockey v3 for macOS is out!

Something else Disk Jockey does now: in addition to disk images, it knows quite a bit about Macintosh ROMs. Drag a ROM file (that you have undoubtedly acquired by perfectly legal means) to any of its windows and it will tell you what machine it comes from (with an icon that matches the computer...

Disk Jockey v3 for macOS is out!

Thanks for the feedback! Regarding the incorrect message, the buttons have moved around since the previous version but the text was not updated. It will be :) More puzzling is your crash when trying to convert the driver. You're not doing anything wrong at all, it seems the background thread...

Disk Jockey v3 for macOS is out!

v3.4 release Disk-O-Matic now understands HFS+ (Mac OS Extended). Revisit your disk images and restore old files from the late Nineties! If you've ever opened a disk image and all you could see was a file named "Where_have_all_my_files_gone?", this was because it was an HFS+ volume wrapped in...

Disk Jockey, a disk image file maker for your retro stuff - Beta for version 3!

Well the beta is going to have to stay in beta for a while longer because Xcode 15 (which I use) doesn't create correct builds for some older versions of macOS. And I still want to support at least 10.13 High Sierra with Disk Jockey. https://github.com/apple/swift/issues/68163 Thanks @JDW for...

Disk Jockey, a disk image file maker for your retro stuff - Beta for version 3!

That's super. Glad you like it! Yes, I need to run a little bit of regression testing on previous versions of macOS. Little things have changed in the way interface bits are calculated and it's not always obvious which parts are impacted. Thanks for the heads-up!

Disk Jockey, a disk image file maker for your retro stuff - Beta for version 3!

Thanks for the test! Are you certain you are using the beta version? It's a separate link, the regular version will not update to it: https://diskjockey.onegeekarmy.eu/files/diskjockeybeta/Disk-Jockey.dmg Also, the error message above is different in the beta version. Your DOS disk works fine...

    Disk Jockey... for Windows!

1.5 Update You can now partition your device images for BlueSCSI and PiSCSI and create HFS and ProDOS volumes! And also inject existing volume images as new partitions, or install a bootable System 6.0.8 or 7.1 partition. I made a video explaining the partitioner for the Mac version a few...

Customizing the Apple Legacy Recovery CD for various Macs 🛠️ ⚙️ 💾 💿

You'll be glad to know that I've just given the Windows version some love. You can now partition your disk images and create HFS and ProDOS volumes. You can also inject existing volume images or add a bootable System 6.0.8 or 7.1 partition. It's not parity with the Mac version yet. In my...

    Disk Jockey... for Windows!

1.1 Update By popular demand, DJ for Windows now allows the creation of disk images up to 256 GB in size. To enable this, turn on "R.O.N. mode" in the settings window. Do keep in mind that old computers often do not play nice with ridiculously large hard drives so make sure you know what you're...

Raiders of the Lost Icon: search for long-forgotten iconic treasure!

v1.5 Update Since v1.2, Raiders of the Lost Icon has gained a few tricks: - If you're a knitting fan, or a LEGO enthusiast, or if you're retiling your bathroom, you'll be pleased to know that it's now possible to export your icon images with a coordinates grid. It should make your icons easier...

Raiders of the Lost Icon: search for long-forgotten iconic treasure!

What a cool idea. I'll add it to the bucket list. i purposely stayed away from grabbing icons from the resource forks (which is something that Disk Jockey is a lot more equipped to do in the future) because I also want to be able to find all the stuff that was marked as deleted by HFS but...

Raiders of the Lost Icon: search for long-forgotten iconic treasure!

I do too! I've been playing with the SVG output and it's kinda neat: the pixels are exported as individual squares so it's super easy to remove or group them. And then you can easily make an STL of the whole thing and print them in 3D.

Raiders of the Lost Icon: search for long-forgotten iconic treasure!

1.2 Update Raiders of the Lost Icon now exports to SVG (for you vector freaks out there). Its USDZ models are also considerably optimized and now load super fast. Impress your friends! Finally , an issue was found in the auto-updater. If your RotLI complains, manually grab a fresh copy at...

Raiders of the Lost Icon: search for long-forgotten iconic treasure!

Here's my humble contribution to #MARCHintosh2023: Raiders of the Lost Icon (RotLI) It's an adventure application for macOS 11.15 and up that lets you dig through the vast expanses of bytes of your disk images (and ROM files but shhhhhhh) to uncover the hidden icons that could be hiding...

Crucible for the SMC ROM SIMM

For the record, the exactly correct size is 1,572,864 bytes, because the IIsi modified ROM takes up 524,288 bytes of the available 2,097,152 bytes (2 MB) of the 4 combined ROM chips. The blank disk image included in Crucible is precisely the right size so you won't waste a single byte :) As for...
