What should i do with this Macintosh ELSIE prototype ?

I agree with @This Does Not Compute, but would recommend replacing them with period-correct style electolytic "cans" vs. tantalum. I do also know someone who worked for Apple in France many years ago. If you drop me a PM I'll be happy to try and put you in touch...

    512k Floppy Help!

Looking at your pic again, it looks like you have the -03 drive, so a yellow- cable would be correct? 🤔

    512k Floppy Help!

Looks like you have a yellow-stripe floppy cable, but I can't tell which version 800k drive you have. Do you have another (red-stripe) floppy cable you can try to see if that makes any difference? More info about the red- vs. yellow-stripe cables here...

Notifications not working for MS accounts

Hey admins, I use a "MS" email (@live.com) but don't seem to be getting any forum post or DM alerts. Could be we're blocked/black-listed? Has anyone else noticed this? The same thing was happening over at the other place, but was resolved some time ago. I believe the "fix" is the form linked...

...and to confirm that - here's some pics of my 2.0Mb "128k"...

Oh well... can't blame a guy for hoping... 😉

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Re. extending out... Ooo... yuk... that does look like a PITA! 😞 A grayscale one? Perhaps a fork of the current Bolle - Geekdot effort over at the other place? 🤔

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I don't have any solid proof, but it might be that only the "800k" original SEs were lacking the "hole". Also, SE/30 chassis are pretty available - esp. given all the '30s that have succumbed to Maxell bombs. Something else, I'm pretty sure those chassis with the hole will have down-turned...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Well, yeah, but how often do you "change" the media? I don't... and... in the original days, you'd rarely open your "compact" up once you were going... Further, even the cheapest SD cards have HUGE capacities compared to those old days... 😀 This is what I was thinking, but instead of your...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

If you recall my original suggestion, it was to use a wire-wrap "female" connector on the "upper" side of your 'board, with the pins going through the 'board to the underside. Those would then go into the PDS connector on the SE logic board and would eliminate the "male" connector you'd...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

what about dropping the ScuzNet circuitry in that 'space'? You've addressed the CPU, so what about solid-state HD, and, connected... 😁

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I'd say... that's one monster card combo!

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Well... could be I'm halucinating... but I could swear I was resurrecting a SE/30 which had Maxell-bombed and grabbed a spare chassis only to discover the 'hole' was too narrow. I can't put my finger on any pics, but will check the next time I'm down at my lockup - I have a stack of chassis...

    Macintosh 128k w/ 4MB & SCSI expansion - flaky

And how random that you found one. I only picked up the MacSnap stuff a month or two ago. Glad it helped and glad you got it running.

    Macintosh 128k w/ 4MB & SCSI expansion - flaky

Wow... how random! I recently won an eBay auction for some original documentation for a Dove MacSnap. I don't have one those (yet?), but for $10, I thought it'd be nice to have the manual - just in case. To my surprise, folded and inside the MacSnap manual, I found the installation guide for...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I was thinking of a vertically-mounted PDS card. Here's a picture of an SE - showing the "opening" in the chassis where a "vertical" PDS card could go. You can also just see the two mounting holes for the 'top' of the card. Of course, stacking things would probably mean the holes dont quite...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Not specifically... you'd probably want some kind of pad / 'bumper' underneath the accelerator 'board. That said, is everyone aware that the SE logic 'board does have provision for stand-offs? I have at least one period accelerator that spanned the full width of the 'board and used said...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I would think so... Actually, with no "connector" body, it should fit even closer to the original 'logic board.

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

So... I admit to only skimming the thread, but is there a plan for network / ethernet capability? If not, I'm wondering if - instead of a male PDS connector "underneath" the 'board, if a female wirewrap connector could be installed "on top" to allow an original SE PDS add-on to be used. I'm...
