    Software-only OVERCLOCK for LC475, LC575, Quadra 605

Anyone got some time to do a bit of testing? You need a... P475, P476, LC475, LC575, P575, P577 or a Q605 :) Awesome if you have a PowerPC upgrade. Latest version : Edit - actually, now like this, because I realised the sliders were sort of pointing the wrong way. Also I used a top secret...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Heh, I don't fully agree regarding reloaded vs original . Some of us are very attached to the machines we've personally owned for 26 years 🤣

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Take care running Norton Disk Doctor. It is very sensitive to what OS version you are running and can corrupt a disk as often as fix it. It is usually best to only run it in emergencies. Most of the "errors" it finds are hugely overstated. All the creation dates and bundle bits don't cause any...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

In this context you don't need to worry about the difference, apple changed their naming convention over time. AppleTalk can be used over multiple types of hardware, LocalTalk specifically means using the serial ports. There isn't a practical difference between Petar using LocalTalk boxes and...

    Software-only OVERCLOCK for LC475, LC575, Quadra 605

Ah, extra fun. 80MHz should be easier than usual then. A 66 card is better because they just clock double. I assume the 100 detects the speed and switches between 3x and 4x. Or perhaps runs asynchronously? Ah well, anyhow. 66 is better for now to see if that works, because we know what it is doing.

    Software-only OVERCLOCK for LC475, LC575, Quadra 605

Thankfully I don't think that price is anything more than optimistic on the seller's part. We all have number keys and can mash them randomly. Never take listing prices as an item's value - always look at completed. There aren't any showing atm, but last time I saw they were selling in the $400...

    Software-only OVERCLOCK for LC475, LC575, Quadra 605

First pass is mostly done, I had to stop for dinner earlier. The built in speed estimation thing needs a little calibration tweak and I need to make it load in the current settings from the extension on launch... after than I just need to do some testing to make sure everything works. I don't...

    Software-only OVERCLOCK for LC475, LC575, Quadra 605

Tum te tum... Today's progress : Its less far on than it looks. I was just testing after building the XCMD I'm using to set the clock speed. Absolutely flabbergasted that it worked first time. I literally only compiled it (successfully) once. The app itself isn't function complete yet. The...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

I found it! @Zane Kaminski @JDW It is a gestalt lookup. Note "More Information" in the corner describes how it works. More information also mentions that depending on the age of the computer there are also a couple of different gestalt selectors that give similar results. But anyway...

[Help Wanted] - Add missing screenshots to the Garden!

Ah, but don't forget that some of us run System 7.1 with Appearance Manager for compatibility 😆 Although admittedly I personally usually turn off the Platinum appearance when I'm doing that.

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Just to clarify, I don't believe that TattleTech or Norton calculate the MHz themselves, I think they use an OS function... which I think might be run during boot. More guessing, but I think some accelerators modify the stored value to correct it so that things like Norton report correctly. I...

    Software-only OVERCLOCK for LC475, LC575, Quadra 605

It wont work if you have a Spicy O'Clock installed because you have disconnected the onboard clock generator that we are re-programming. The RAM timings should still take though, so it might help out the Spicy O'Clock. The clock generator goes way higher than the computer could ever achieve...

    Software-only OVERCLOCK for LC475, LC575, Quadra 605

As long as you fitted appropriate resistors for 33MHz you're fine :) The schematic values match the Apple Fool clock chipping website, so if you followed either you're good. I actually fitted a 320 to mine because I misplaced the original 300R - I'm not too bothered about 20 ohm higher (its a...

    Software-only OVERCLOCK for LC475, LC575, Quadra 605

Made an updated version. Mustermann found my bug that was stopping arbitrary speeds working on all machines (not sure arbitrary speeds were working on any to be honest...). https://stuffandnonsense.elephantandchicken.co.uk/?p=2519 This version now fully works and you can type in absolutely any...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

<off topic> If you don't know - cool trick : If you put a removable SCSI disk like a CD or a Zip disk in the drive before powering on, and it has a compatible driver on the disk for the host computer, the computer loads the driver from the disk right at the start of boot. This is a great way to...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Norton's estimate of Processor speed is wrong as often as it is right. It is even sometimes wrong on stock, unmodified macs. Some of the 2.5x bus multiplier PPC Performas used to just say the wrong speed. Long and short - don't pay any attention to that, it is out of anybody's control.

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Don't forget to test serial. Your card likely doesn't use anything near as much power, but my old cards drag the 5v rail down, so if you have a PSU outputting 4.75v stock, you add the card and it drops lower and the computer crashes. But JDW has fully confirmed that he already has everything...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Yeah, not voltage then - was just a thought given you were seeing inconsistent behavior. Nice meter for the floppy port. I was meaning to make something when I was recapping a load of PSUs, but I never got around to it. The great thing about making one of those PSU extension cabless is that...

WarpSE: 25 MHz 68HC000-based accelerator for Mac SE

Hey JDW, I'd suggest double checking the 5V rail while the accelerator is running. Perhaps it was lower end, and the extra load is making it marginal. 68000s are picky about the quality of the 5V. Easiest way to measure it is from the external floppy port. The memory aid is that the fifth pin...
