Bootable DOS Tools CD - Review/update tools and functionality list

Ohh, I see how it goes. "Hey does anyone have any suggestions for THING-X?" "Oh sure, do this!! *snicker snicker snicker*" :P I am kinda curious what tools are out there though, and it's not like I won't need to investigate boot chain loading anyways.

Bootable DOS Tools CD - Review/update tools and functionality list

Hey fellow PC users! A long time ago, two decades at this point, I took the time to put together a bootable CD with the world's most convoluted series of nested DOS config.sys/autoexec.bat menus to get access to some commonly used utilities, speed up loading an OEM install of...

Wondrous networked (LAN or remote!) disk volume, easy setup!

Sooo, I did finally get my PCI NIC working and managed to get NetDrive working. I ran into a couple of challenges. In MSDOS, SYS.COM just does NOT want to work on the netdrive. I can treat it as a plain storage volume, even format it, but thoughts of having it be a bootable/system drive to copy...

    Kensington Turbo Mouse ADB Trackball

Some low/medium-density foam should do the trick. You need something mildly abrasive to help clean them but not scratch/gouge/wear out the rollers.

    IBM PS/2 8530 720k floppy drive

Ahh that's good then. Some older controllers really didn't like 1.44Mb drives and would result in data loss/corruption. Re: the solder job, it may not be pretty but if it works, it works. That's what counts in the end. :)

    IBM PS/2 8530 720k floppy drive

Oh and as for why you were getting speed errors, 720K disks are spin at a slower speed than 1.44MB disks, so yes the speed will be different and not match if you try to use a 1.44MB drive.

    IBM PS/2 8530 720k floppy drive

Judging from the photo, those two pads are already situated on two major buses. You should be able to scrape away some of the solder mask to use for the capacitor like so:

Time for an Athlon-XP Build - Project Middlesex (Now with pretty pictures!)

Mmmm nForce2 goodness. They were great for their time. I'm sure you've already checked it in the motherboard manual but make sure you have your RAM in the right slots so you get the dual channel speeds. You planning to do dual monitor with the chipset video?

Adaptec SCSI card DOS driver woes (mini-rant)

After the holidays, and the loss of a family member, I'm finally home and could pick this back up. SOOOO, strap in cause it gets a little weird. First thing I did was move the AHA-1542CF, along with the ISA Super I/O card. From top (closest to the keyboard connector) to bottom, here is how the...

Poll - Extending the term length of the board

I'm also in favor of longer terms, and supporting of the idea that it's not every position up each year but instead limited to 1 or 2 tops. As others stated, it helps ensure a more stable leadership with minimal impact from onboarding.

Adaptec SCSI card DOS driver woes (mini-rant)

This is a bit more of a mini-rant at the rather abhorrent state and experiences I've had with the real mode drivers for Adaptec's older, non-PCI cards. Comments/suggestions are of course welcomed, more wanting to share my experiences in hopes that maybe I can spare someone else this same pain...

    Toshiba Libretto 50CT Charging Behavior

Hey folks, bit late to the party here but I pulled my Libretto out and tried it, exact same thing for me both in and out of the large dock (the one that adds another PCMCIA slot).

[2023-11-11] - Tinker Different Board Meeting Minutes

I second this, even if it meant onboarding 2 people and reducing it to 2 year terms. It's up to the individual of course but 2 or 4 years seems reasonable IMHO.

Media Vision Memphis Multimedia Kit - An excercise in proprietary connector mappings

Looking at the Logic SCSI chip, we can see (from those photos), Pins 17, 16, 15, 14, and 12 for sure are routed to the DB45, 13 likely is too but need to trace the via on the back of the PCB. Those correlate to the CS, A2, A1, A0, and GND pins, which A2-0 are the Address lines, defined as...

Media Vision Memphis Multimedia Kit - An excercise in proprietary connector mappings

First set of notes: Looking here: There's traces going from the SCSI controller directly to the Zilog, specifically pins 20, 21, 22, 24, 27 and 28 are visibly connected. Per the Logic datasheet, they're D7, D6, D5, D4, D1 and D0 respectively. It's probably a safe assumption that Pins 25...

Media Vision Memphis Multimedia Kit - An excercise in proprietary connector mappings

After having been alerted to a GoodWill auction for a Media Vision Memphis base unit, speakers, and power adapter in very good condition, I decided to get them, then go through the exercise of mapping out the pins to see if it's possible to build an adapter cable to connect most, if not all, the...

    IIgs Expansion Card Recommendations

jots notes The ethernet adapter is odd to me. I admit I haven't checked into it but can GS/OS support ethernet? I kinda wonder if it would be easier to copy/run apps and games from an AppleTalk file share. EDIT: Ahhh looks like Marinetti is the best option, provides a lot of useful tools...

    IIgs Expansion Card Recommendations

Ohhh I didn't know about the LiteSound card. That's really cool that it's transparent! I think I will pick one up. Appreciate the suggestion! I didn't go with an 8MB card, I did get a RAMGS/4 from GGLabs though. The 8MB seemed a bit excessive for most apps.
