    Flux residue cleaner recommendations?

I wasn’t aware it’s a contender for use in ultrasonic cleaners. I use it straight from the bottle, either via a spray bottle or pored into a shot glass that I dip cotton buds (aka q-tips) in. Definitely devolves flux better than isopropyl alcohol in that use case.

    Flux residue cleaner recommendations?

I use Amtech flux and agree with your comments on cleaning with isopropyl alcohol. MG Chemicals' Flux Remover is better (what I am using now with toothbrush, followed by cotton buds) but it's not perfect.

    7100 L2 Cache SIMM

I have a resource article on Power Macintosh L2 Cache DIMMs that includes info on identifying those compatible with 61xx/71xx/81xx models: https://tinkerdifferent.com/resources/ppc-macintosh-l2-cache-modules.19/ Unfortunately it seems these are not exactly easy to find on sites like eBay. I...

    Apple Restoration CDs (1995-1997)

As each subsequent Apple Restoration CD disk includes info on the previous disks in its Read Me, here's what we're all missing that would be on Disk #2 and #4: Apple Restoration CD - System Software Disk 2 (November 1995) Part Number - Desktop Computers 694-0294 - 7.1 for LCIII, LC475, LC520...

    Apple Restoration CDs (1995-1997)

I have some Apple Restoration CDs that I just uploaded to the Macintosh Garden. My understanding is these were used by Apple service centers/partners to restore hard drives for specific Mac models to the same image they left the factory with, which in some (many?) cases includes items you would...

    Expanding SSD Drive capacity?

I've seen posts about adding RAM chips to empty pads on SIMMs/DIMMs to, for example, turn a 8MB stick into a 16MB one, and now I'm wondering if that's doable for "older" SSDs? In particular I have several STEC 128MB "Flash Drives" SLFLD25 - 128MM1U that appear to have pads for flash chips that...

Another software request: PowerBook 5300 Restore CD-ROM

One thing to note is that these CDs aren't really restore a HD to the way it shipped from the factory installers, more of just the base OS part. Apple did produce HD restoration CDs that could re-image hard drives for systems with what was on them from the factory (including demos, extra...

Another software request: PowerBook 5300 Restore CD-ROM

#5 here:? https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/macintosh-os-752-power-mac-7200-and-7500 Also if you read the note on this one "Mac OS 7.5.2 (PowerBook 500 with PPC Upgrade)" it doubles-up as an install set for the PowerBooks 190, 5300 and Duo 2300c...

    Quadra 650 Battery Bomb Repair

I've got a copy of the PPC upgrade card CD installer for 7.5.2 for the 520/540. I guess having an external CD-ROM was something a good percentage of folks had back in the day (I know I did). Come to think of it I need to look at what that OS shows in About this Mac on my PPC upgraded 540c...

    Quadra 650 Battery Bomb Repair

I think the general, supports "all" Macs, installers don't identify specific models. What your noticing is there are special builds that do, at least for: 7.5.2 for PB 190/5300 7.5.3 for PB 1400 I'm not sure if this continued into 7.6 and beyond. I know there are machine specific version of...

    3D printed 2.5" HD bracket for CF2IDE

I've been using simple, cheap CF2IDE adapters along with industrial Compact Flash cards in my 1400 and 5300 PowerBooks for some time (also looking to do so in a 2300 Duo and "new" 190). I know there are other options with SD cards and what not but I just like this approach. One aspect that I...

Upgrading IIsi onboard RAM to 4MB

Good point that if you don't connect anything to the built-in video that means that the system is not using RAM based built-in video (RBV) so Bank A and B are equally as performant. it's only "Vampire Video" if you try to use Bank A RAM for System/Program memory and make use of the built-in...

Upgrading IIsi onboard RAM to 4MB

Zane, I agree with you with one caveat, if you are not using built-in video (i.e you are using a PDS or NuBus video card) you *could* make the case that you want more then 65MB of RAM: Bank A 1MB (fixed), Bank B 64MB (4x 16MB SIMMs). I personally don't see the need for this other then the...
