    PowerBook 5300C repair help :)

The caps on both my working power boards did also look slightly bulged, probably a sign of age and impending failure. Luckily they don't seem to be leaking (yet), just drying out hopefully? Get them replaced and it may come back. You probably have one or more out of spec power rail due to it...

Beige G3 not reading burned CDs

You could get a cable I’m sure that hooks up to the scsi to sd and the port. I’d say the easiest thing to do if to just pull the hard drive and put it in a newer IDE mac (if you have one) that has USB.

Beige G3 not reading burned CDs

I think the OS shouldn’t need any drivers to use it?

    PowerBook 5300C repair help :)

That is the GLoD. Yes, check the power connector again, but the power board is also known to be at fault for this.

Beige G3 not reading burned CDs

I’d invest in a USB card for it, it would make file transfer much easier. Make sure it’s Mac compatible though, I havent looked into the requirements for that before.

    PowerBook 5300C repair help :)

If it’s chiming then I doubt the barrel jack is at fault honestly, it either gets power or it doesn’t. I’d be looking toward the power board.

    PowerBook 5300C repair help :)

My first bet would be the DC power board (module with all the caps on it), they do go bad from what I've heard. I've had abnormally good luck with my 5300 units, both at least booted correctly (though had power-unrelated issues). I've got mine mostly recapped now (just gotta get one cap on the...

Beige G3 not reading burned CDs

Old CD-ROM drives can indeed be incredibly picky about properly reading burned disks. In particular, my 12" iBook G3 Snow has immense difficulty booting from burned CDs, which made it an absolute nightmare to get Tiger installed on when I got it (was in 2020 and I didn't have nearly as many...

    Reviving old iPads (gen 2 & 3)

8.4.1 is as far as you can go on an iPad 3 unfortunately, no further untethered unless you've dumped the SHSH blobs of a previous version in the past. What are SHSH blobs? Basically, Apple is a giant evil corporation. To prevent users from downgrading their devices to whatever iOS version they...

Arch Linux on a Black MacBook2,1

It's even worse than 10.11, no patcher supports GPU acceleration for anything above Mountain Lion (10.8). That's what I've got running on my early 2008 BlackBook.

    WinBook 486SLC laptop quit posting...

Gotta find it first, shouldn’t be too difficult, it uses AMI. My first suspect is the power board. My IBM PS/Note had similar behavior where it would power on but not POST which was caused by the bad cap. Maybe the caps on that board are out of spec, will likely replace those to start.

    WinBook 486SLC laptop quit posting...

What paths? What would I suspect? Not Posting is an issue that could be caused by anything There is zero corrosion on the board whatsoever. The main battery was not present and did not leak, and the CMOS battery didn’t damage anything either.

    WinBook 486SLC laptop quit posting...

Just arrived from eBay, seems pretty uncommon. Worked perfect when I got it, booted up into Windows 3.1 and besides both shift keys seeming to not work, it was running great. Then I opened it up to remove the CMOS battery, which as I suspected was indeed a Varta pack that had begun to leak down...

is it possible to work online on PowerPc G4 iBook without freezing?

Strange thing is that it happens on multiple systems. Makes me think it's something with your router config.

is it possible to work online on PowerPc G4 iBook without freezing?

The general system freezes when online? Or the browser? Internet on a PPC is going to be slow. Usable if you're patient, but slow. If you're entire system freezes on both the eMac and the iBook then I'd honestly have no idea what's up besides a possible incompatibility with your router. Check...

    A free PowerBook 3400c?!

Well this is officially the find of the year so far. 240MHz PowerBook 3400c, for FREE!!! It was a bit beat up, bad keyboard, wonky hinges, missing a drive module and the HDD Cable (and HDD) but shockingly the PRAM battery hadn’t wrecked the logic board and it works! I have another one in...
