What happens if you give it a tap when powered on? If you get a flicker of video maybe you have a broken solder joint. Have you already checked/reflowed the large joints like those on the FBT?

FBT coils cant be tested with a typical multimeter but can be with a ring tester. Search for blue ring tester. There are kits you can build and assembled ones pop up on eBay now and then. It’s not that likely the FBT is bad on your CC though. What’s the symptom You’re experiencing?

I wonder if there’s a way to reverse the state of brittle plastic. Perhaps heating it for some time just below its melting point would help? Anyone know the chemistry of ABS and other plastics used in these products well enough to know what if anything might help?

If you do need something high wattage and high quality you could go with a classic HP/Agilent/Keysight E364xA. They go up to 400W or so. They’re so common you may be able to find a very cheap broken one and fix It up.

It's a really lovely setup. Perhaps a museum like System Source would be interested in acquiring it. It'd be so great if it was able to be on a public display. I'll let a friend associated with the museum know about this thread.

BTW, the current Datasheet for 4861P doesn't seem to decode the part used on RP201 which is a Bourns 4861P-E41-000 and I can't find that part online anywhere. If you know what the spec for that resistor pack is supposed to be, please chime in.

I found a rotten trace and via under an almost rotten off leg of RP201. I haven't patched it up yet, but suspect this is the issue.

I found one end of C15 was shorted to a nearby trace. I fixed that up but the symptom is the same.

I recapped a new-to-me backlit Portable and am using a Portable Battery Eliminator by @Androda. It will either display random garbage on the screen, just gray screen with backlight, sad Mac 00000014 / 0000CD38 with no backlight or nothing at all. My understanding is that 00000014 / 0000CD38...

I found the listing for Ron's disc and it says Definitely some weasel wording there. Why not just be transparent that it's a reproduction? $25, whether repro or not, is too much IMO too.
