Hey everyone! We've been having issues with being bombarded by forum spam bots. As a temporary measure we're disabling registration for around 72 hours. Anyone wanting to join up as a legitimate user, please have patience! :)
1) Mount the SSD in your MDD, using either
1a) A SATA controller, as detailed in https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/sata-in-an-old-world-pci-power-mac-impossibru-updated-11-22-23.1494/
1b) Using that red IDE-to-SATA adapter you posted a picture of. YMMV, these are fickle computers

USB 3.0 won't work in a G4 at all, but there are even new compatible USB2 cards available!

I got the tip from https://bitbang.social/@[email protected]/112518836789668607
My 2 cents:
I wouldn't recommend running RAID50 in a 6-disk setup.
As we touched upon on Discord, RAID50 or rather 5+0 isn't for redundancy - it's for performance: https://www.techtarget.com/searchstorage/definition/RAID-50-RAID-50
Splitting the load across 2x RAID5 sets for more speed, mainly...
The way CPU accelerators _generally_ work on Macs is that the original CPU (along with the ROM) does the first startup of everything, including launching the OS. Then a system extension takes over and punts the processing over to the accelerator. Removing the original CPU will render the system...
Nothing bad happens. The CPU won't even break a sweat since you're running it a half its rated speed.
That is if you don't swap the crystal.
Understand that there's no such thing as a "CPU clock" on these old things. If you swap to a 30MHz crystal you overclock the entire logic board including...
This indicates the P1 connector from your PSU is not the correct one. It's only 20 pins, which is an OLD standard. Standard ATX is 24pin for many years now. It looks like you might have a modular PSU - in that case, please look for the correct 24p ATX cable. That will line up perfectly with your...
Not sure I understand. What's wrong with the adapter?
From the pictures it looks like you're not using the correct connector from the PSU. I haven't seen a PSU using only a 20-pin in years.
As far as I know, only @Bolle has recreated the Carrera040 boards, and he has chosen not to publish the plans (as is his prerogative).
I've bought one from him myself so maybe you can as well - depending on his stock levels.
The possibility of installing multiple operating systems is already enabled by BlueSCSI.
However, the Macintosh has no boot loader in the way that GRUB or LILO or UEFI works.
You can set which OS to load on next boot from the Startup Disk control panel, or use System Switcher which does the same.
Yep, pretty much obligatory. See https://recapamac.com.au/macintosh-se-30/ for guidance, and https://console5.com/store/computer-cap-kits/mac-68k-cap-kits/se-30.html for ready-made kits with what you need
These are pretty rare and expensive. I'd ask why you feel you need one? What are you going...
These PDS accelerators are a bit more involved than the 7x00-series, since here we're not actually replacing the CPU - we're adding an additional one.
That requires special software trickery to make the OS switch to that CPU during boot.
Had another go at the Wayback Machine, and was able to find a copy version 1.2.4 which works!
I've uploaded it to the Garden along with some information.
Documenting here too, so that others might struggle less than I did.
