powebook 1400c freezes when I have an HDI-30 cable plugged in

Please don’t hot plug SCSI devices - it’s not designed for that and you could do serious damage. BlueSCSI won’t run off the back of a PowerBook as it doesn’t provide the termination power needed. You might be able to plug in a USB cable to provide power that way?

Macintosh SE/30 - Activity LED Amber

If it’s not the stock drive you’re using, maybe the voltages are too low from the pin header? The next thing to try would be another LED, I guess.

Decoding the ImageWriter II/LQ LocalTalk Option card NVSRAM chip

Just to say, as an IWII owner I’m very excited to see this project in development. Is the plan to combine the features of both the AppleTalk card and the memory expansion card that were originally available?

Macintosh IIsi, Recapped, quite chime, no display.

Better than a logic board fault, I’d say!

Macintosh IIsi, Recapped, quite chime, no display.

The sound issue might just be a bad connection to the internal speaker. The design the IIsi uses - sprung contacts under the logic board - is notorious for being flaky. Try inspecting and cleaning the contacts as well as the pads on the logic board which press against them.

Feasibility of a custom PERCH card?

It’s entirely possible but a big undertaking, not sure who out there would be interested in designing such a card. In the meantime, if you have a Rev. 2 Personality card, you already have an unpopulated USB footprint that can be added on to :) It seems that Apple had planned to have this...

Reviving a sad looking Quadra 840av

I’ve fixed another 840AV board! It was in such appalling condition, having been ravaged by the worst cap corrosion I’ve ever seen plus some nasty battery leakage on top of that. It’s taken most of the year, but not 5 years like @Mac84 :D I’d previously recapped it, desoldered/cleaned/replaced...

    Snooper serial loopback plug

I used an old Lindy serial cable to make my loopback plugs and I assumed that the wiring colour coding was in the same configuration as @Elemenoh showed. Unfortunately, it’s not - so I don’t think we can conclude the colour scheme is standardized. Or, perhaps it is, but not all cables comply.

Troubles reinstalling OS 8.5 on SSD in G3 B&W

As far as I know there is an issue using the 4 port 3114 in a Mac… I don’t remember specifically what it is but I don’t think the full support is there. EDIT: Ah yes, it’s not OS 9 compatible. If you’re just using OS X then no issues.

Troubles reinstalling OS 8.5 on SSD in G3 B&W

I’d really suggest that anyone serious about using an SSD drive in a Blue and White get hold of a SiI3112 based PCI SATA card and flash it with the firmware modded by @dosdude1 and available here. I say this because these cards are cheap to pick up (about $10 on eBay), will avoid having to deal...

Anyone have experience with the ATTiny RTC Module?

I've assembled a few of these RTCs. Orienting them is a bit of a problem, pin 1 (with the square pad) faces the PDS slot. I've applied a stripe of white paint to the edge of my PCBs to aid with this. The oscillator can remain on the board, but you *must* remove the PRAM battery if it's fitted.

    Molar Mac issues

Useful to see a pic of this thing. Where is R726 located on the board? To be clear, for a successful boot: do you also need to disconnect the analog board from the PSU… or just the internal video cable from the Wings card?

PowerBook 160 - New owner here

I’ve made a couple, the results were alright but not spectacular. I get a bit over an hour’s runtime on average but weirdly one seems to work better than the other, and they don’t always fully charge up.

PowerBook 160 - New owner here

Congratulations! The black screen is bad caps on the LCD driver board, that is for certain. I wouldn’t try using that battery again - it’s definitely dead and might blow a fuse on the logic board. Instead, pop the sliding cover off and use it to cover the battery bay.

PowerBook 160 - New owner here

I once bought a 165 that looked good on the outside, but was trashed internally so you’ll have to wait and see. Fingers crossed it’s a good one. There are usually issues with the plastic standoffs that hold the motherboard to the lower case, as well as the ones that hold the screen hinges to...

PowerBook 160 - New owner here

A comparable power supply will do it - I think you need 7V 1.5A, and the barrel jack is a standard 5.5mm x 2.1mm type but check if centre positive or not as I don’t remember offhand. You’ll need to investigate once the machine arrives what they mean by does not power on - it could be that it...
