    SE/30 RAM Banking QUESTION

This is a great idea actually. This is likely a little over-cautious. Unless you have software you specifically want to run that's incompatible, you may as well just leave 32-bit mode enabled - and disable as necessary.

    SE/30 RAM Banking QUESTION

24-bit dirty software will crash if set to 32-bit mode, regardless of which OS you have booted. One example is Shufflepuck Café.

Help Please - I've confused my Beige G3 trying to setup SATA

Hi! The firmware issue has to do with the Rev. C ROM card. It has nothing to do with the version of the logic board installed and you could fit a Rev. A or B ROM if that were a problem. I know that Sonnet has an incompatibility warning about using their Tempo Trio with a Rev. C ROM, but theirs...

    SE/30 RAM Banking QUESTION

Sorry for taking so long to follow up on my findings on this. I can now clarify what’s going on here. Basically, I can have just 4 sticks on 16MB installed when I’m using my Rominator II (which is basically a IIsi ROM with some extra features). With the stock ROM, it won’t boot: I need to have...

IIci cache card - three tone chime

I’m not a cache card expert, but if you’ve recapped it and it still doesn’t work, it could indicate a failed SRAM chip - in which case the best thing to do is obtain another cache card. Have you made sure the card’s connector is clean, and the pins straight? Maybe you could spray some contact...

    Help with XT Turbo Clone

To follow up, I got the PC fully working. But it wasn’t anything to do with the corrosion, it was the graphics card. It has a switch on it internally that sets either color or mono output. After fiddling with this switch, i.e. moving it back and forth several times, the machine started to POST...

    SE/30 RAM Banking QUESTION

I think those metal pins pull out fairly cleanly, although there is probably a large variation of shapes out there. Perhaps someone can make up some new ones? It seems like there will be enough demand.

    SE/30 RAM Banking QUESTION

Exactly, those were the only ones I could get hold of at the time (and they weren’t exactly cheap). I had one module that wasn’t lining up properly and I pushed just a bit too hard and the whole corner came off the socket. I did get a free replacement from the seller on a one-off basis as he...

    SE/30 RAM Banking QUESTION

I'ved use exactly the same type of NOS sockets for my Bolle SE/30 builds that I got from a UK supplier, and they are just as shockingly brittle, more fragile than the sockets on my original boards. One of my new build boards isn't finished yet and I've only soldered in four of the RAM sockets...

    Help with XT Turbo Clone

Interesting info. I see I could fit an 8087 next to it as well. What does second-sourced mean?

    Help with XT Turbo Clone

I assume the PC doesn’t actually need the backup battery to be present to boot?

    Help with XT Turbo Clone

I have checked my work, but of course I could have missed something. Agree about the RAM sockets - i have some new ones on order so will try replacing the ones that are visually corroded & also take the opportunity to inspect the traces that run underneath. if the BIOS chip is the one to the...

    Help with XT Turbo Clone

I need some help in trying to restore an Elonex PC-88C which has a Faraday FE2010A CPU, basically an 8088 XT Turbo clone. Here's a pic of the motherboard. Upon recently powering on, it started booting up, with a good picture on-screen, and passed the RAM test. It couldn't find a hard drive...
