SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

Rats! link at top of page brings up this PCIe(?) card: https://www.ebay.com/itm/285310334577 Didn't grok that part at first. Box says PCI, driver disk says PCIe as does edge card. Might it work as either? Looks like PCIe 1x slapped onto PCI? Not familiar with such, might it work in either...

SATA? In an old world PCI Power Mac?! IMPOSSIBRU! (Updated 11/22/23)

Link at top of page still works. Is this the same card and has anyone gotten it to work with OS9? Does RAID work in Macs under OS9 or its horrid replacement? Wondering if it'll work in Classic under same. Curious about Linux as well, eventually building a new tower. New toy in stocking...

Senior crew, can you identify this tool?

1973 date codes on ICs puts this into homebrew 8008 development board territory. What's the contact count on the slot? WAG would be base/PSU/manual programming input unit 8 (inverting data bit switches) for someone's 8008 build.

Senior crew, can you identify this tool?

I can only identify three of the ICs. It's one for the Road Show I think. '73 was two years after Intel released 4004, its first 4-bit CPU. 8008 released a year and your find's 8-bit world. I think your guess that it's a blinky light 8-bit data indication unit might be right. It's an...

Senior crew, can you identify this tool?

That's well before my time, the earliest general purpose bus I could dig up was: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/STD_Bus That's not even enough pins for an early 4bit computing bus AFAIK? https://www.wikiwand.com/en/articles/4-bit_computing Got a pic of the other side of that board?

When you know your 3 y/o son was in your office

Looks like time for electrical stimulation/conditioning of a young brain when it comes poking around in both light sockets and electrical outlets? Maybe better to do the lessons separately to avoid confusion?

Massive (filthy) find in South Carolina

All my MAXELL pulls are in this cork stoppered glass bottle. Been waiting well over five years for the first one to 'splode. Hoping it'll set off a chain reaction in the containment. 🎆 BTW, LOVE what you did with that fx board, fabulous!

BLAZING. FAST. MAC. The Performer PDS 68030 Accelerator by MacEffects!

Cool beans! Love the info. I'll have to get my much upgraded Drexel 128K onto the bench. That's where I found the Performer @Bolle reverse engineered. Benchmarking stock OEM version against the Repo might be fun. Can't imagine there being a difference, but after I get the TriSlot testbed...

Can We Crowd Source 2D/3D Models of the InWin A500 I/O Shields?

I've got that or its identical twin. Pulled it off the shelf and took a quick look at it. I installed the standard ATX I/O panel shield that cam with my Intel ATOM mini board without problem as I recall. Might they have modified the sheet metal at some point?

TwiSlot PCI Riser and ComSlot2 NIC repro in widened CS riser form factor

I like that I'm hard pressed to lose the stripper on the new tool. Not sure my stripper's still inside the handle, gotta find it. :p

TwiSlot PCI Riser and ComSlot2 NIC repro in widened CS riser form factor

My CrapShack tool is the silver one in that link with the stripper stored in the handle. Pretty sure it's somewhere around here, but I much prefer the one piece stripper/wrap/unwrap tool. edit: probably can't get to the soldering until MON/TUE off. Inward riser arrived, the three cards will be...

TwiSlot PCI Riser and ComSlot2 NIC repro in widened CS riser form factor

AFAIK, wire wrap was used and may still be used in the Aviation Industry, it's far more robust and reliable than soldered PCBs. https://www.nutsvolts.com/magazine/article/wire_wrap_is_alive_and_well

LOL! :ROFLMAO: When you've got wire wrap headers for the tentacle interconnect . . . what else you gonna do? Old guys rule! ;)

Cool, might VRAM loadout be ROM limited to the 2MB or were the higher capacity chips unavailable at release and so not hobbled in ROM. Apple woudd not likely have missed that opportunity to hamstring a mid-range offering. Might they have done so in order to prevent stacking of ICs? I put little...

    A takky Mac…..

Got no money for that, on a retirement budget, though still working full time. 3D CAD and PCB Design Tools are at the top of the list when i have more time. Is that model available under license? Chopping parts out by hand would be one thing, but doing it with modifications to the print...

TwiSlot PCI Riser and ComSlot2 NIC repro in widened CS riser form factor

Don't recall which of the many configs I played with last night showed a problem with the mouse freezing. VidCard I've been using is a deader, but ROMs show up just fine. Hooked up an ATI Rage128 with DVD decoder daughtercard. One slot or another (probably E1?) had the mouse/cursor freeze when...
