Macintosh SE or SE/30 Fan Bracket

Not all that uncommon for the Plus' vents to melt above the flyback. I think SE cooling was probably fine until the went to the muffin fan to reduce noise. The original Cross Flow Fan was more efficient. That's what you'll find in all kinds of things, Laser Printers, copiers and the like. It is...

    Not only vintage Computers

@Volvo242GT the only part of that car that should be black is that white hood! Just spray it matte black to put it out of its misplaced misery. :p

Upgrading IIsi onboard RAM to 4MB

Have you tried a different set of SIMMs yet? The answer to most problems with the IIsi would be a Video Card, just don't plug anything into the Vampire Video's DA-15 fangs. Output from it is crap to begin with and for that it screws up memory.

TinkerTips - Tools of the Trades, Arts, Hardware and . . .

Finally finished . . . almost, gotta drill holes in the worktop so it'll hang from pins on the backside underneath that last piece pictured above. No hurry there, don't expect to roll everything out of the second bedroom for new carpet installation for a week or three. Worktop sits on 1x2...

Macintosh SE or SE/30 Fan Bracket

Cooling the flyback is probably the most important thing in Compacts. Note that they're always near the cooling vents/fan. PSU components would likely be next. CPU is waaaay down the list compared to the bumple thingies on the A/B I'd think. Some hot ones on the Plus and +Minus A/B boards are...

    Kitchen demo & remodel

Customized storage shelves in that space for what's now there and more would balance things out nicely. ;) In our 50's Cold War era Apartment Building/Co-op there was nothing above its fabulous gas range . . . edit: design detail of above; the shelves are built into the wall that...

    Kitchen demo & remodel

Nice! When you get the smaller pulls buy an extra one and two of the long ones. Take the false front off the sink base and staple the bags to the back of it.*** That way you can reach up benind, identify by feel and pull the spare out of the bag. By the time you'll need one, sure as shootin'...

    The Mega Shed

New England winter thing that looks like an olde schoole salt container. Modern designs have an overhang above the tall, glazed side of the house to block the summer's high sun to keep things cool and let the low winter sun's light wash in when heating is needed. Rigid foam stands up to earth...

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

I'll try to wrap my head around that when I can examine the traces. Do you have a utility that reports how much memory is installed in each of the two banks or is statement based upon reporting of total memory detected from both banks? Might be important? It sounds like you're combining RAS...

    The Mega Shed

Modified salt box design facing south with (horizontally hinged at top) clerestory casement windows to vent hot air in summer? Consider setting your joists (or just treated furring strips) on 2" rigid foam insulation? Usually installed vertically between concrete foundation and ground, but it...

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

Have you got a schematic of your breakout board. Extra eyes looking at it might find any problem should there be one? Doubt you'd see activity. Got pinout of Sonora? Comparison to MDU might be helpful. Since the LCI was developed from the LC bloodline, it may be entirely different. If Sonora...

Macintosh SE or SE/30 Fan Bracket

Very, very cool! ;) That should help a lot in moving more air more easily. It might not feel like that to the touch if compared to the first version with machines side by side do to pressure reduction in the boot's more efficient transition? But that will likely also help by reducing...

Macintosh SE or SE/30 Fan Bracket

Back on topic: @alxlab have you looked at the round to rectangular transition at all? Thoughts?

Macintosh SE or SE/30 Fan Bracket

However, he didn't put much stock in vents for his precious Mac's bucket design. He was badly mistaken in his assumption that deodorant was unnecessary as well. IMO your quest for thermal disbursement for the 68030 is a solution is a search of a problem. Can't think of a single case where...

    Palm m515 / BlackBerry Curve 8520 - mid to late 2000s productivity!

Sweet, what's the resolution and how do the pics compare to the eyemodule2? I'll have to hunt down the pic of my WA setup for eyemodule2.

    Palm m515 / BlackBerry Curve 8520 - mid to late 2000s productivity!

SD Card Camera, details please! I went with the Handspring Visor for its long awaited expansion slot. Eyemodule 2 color digicam walked out of the store with me and the Visor that day. Got one shot of the smoke pall running across the sky down Broadway from Lispenard St. on 9/11 with it by...

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

Thanks for jumping in with both feet, bud! I know work has you well and truly knackered. :) So much information! Looks like the one RAS line thing for the eight chips on the IIsi board in my diagram is correct after all? One review question: I have a suspicion that we figured that addressing...

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

Not maths I think? Seems a nomenclature kinda thing. You may be mixing computer numbers (binary) up with IRL decimals? You need to have A11 implemented to address 64MB. That makes A0-A11, twelve address lines. Diagram is from the everlasting SIMMspender hack aimed at torquing Bank A of the...

Breaking the 36MB RAM limit on the LCIII

HRMMM? Doubtful that you'd have any timing issues at all cropping up? That's a unified 25MHz system bus, so only a ridiculous amount of latency from buffer or active components could be problematic? Traces could be a meter long on that clock I think. Maybe capacitance issues? Try isolating and...
