    Quadra 650 Battery Bomb Repair

I think 7.5.2 still does it.

    Quadra 650 Battery Bomb Repair

7.5.3 still shows the generic messages - think you would need a bit older for the specific models to appear.

PowerBook 165 restoration: Tips for getting started?

Nice. The B variant is just about the same - it has 2MB more RAM soldered in to the CPU card, that was the only difference. It was also a bit cheaper and didn’t ship with system disks but that doesn’t matter today anymore.

PowerBook 165 restoration: Tips for getting started?

Hmm interesting. I actually DO have a working battery, it’s an aftermarket unbranded pack from…sometime? No idea, it came with my PowerBook 150 and I actually just got it to properly calibrate once last night - ran for 40 minutes. But regardless, my 180c runs off my aftermarket 2A supply with or...

PowerBook 165 restoration: Tips for getting started?

My 2A rated aftermarket supply will actually run my 180c. That one might actually be under-rated for once.

PowerBook 165 restoration: Tips for getting started?

You can get anything to crack open with enough persuasion :) Most use a vice to crack open a 100 series PSU - they come apart real easy when you do. I got my dead one open like this and it's waiting on me to recap it next. As for a modern replacement, there are a bunch of generics...

PowerBook 165 restoration: Tips for getting started?

Your not-so-local "PowerBook Guy" on duty! Screen issues Common misconception, but the caps causing your screen issues are on the LCD itself, not the inverter board. There is a single through-hole electrolytic cap on the inverter board, but it is unlikely to be the cause of your issue. Get it...

    Repairing PowerBook 140 standoffs

Think those are the ones for the bottom case. Not sure about the keyboard, you’ve got a really rough system there. You may want to look for a plastics donor, usually you’ll end up with a few damaged for the drive cage mounts but the keyboard mounts and stuff like that are usually fine.

Clamshell XGA Mod - Possible on 4MB VRAM models?

Maybe the EEPROM is there in order to store the custom firmware commands? Perhaps since iClamVideos was making these XGA modded clamshells to sell them, he didn’t want to risk the parameters getting reset in the future, so he just hard wired them in, using an EEPROM chip to store them? Just an idea.

Clamshell XGA Mod - Possible on 4MB VRAM models?

Nope not yet. Need to go and actually pick up an LG display cable. Soon hopefully! This is all quite interesting. I’m really hoping you’ve just made a wiring error here and there isn’t a major incompatibility.

    PowerBook 2400 Power/IO board capacitors

Would be interested to know if there are any caps on the LCD or its inverter board. And the model number of the LCD.

If you see that purple, you’re usually safe :)

    PowerBook 2400 Power/IO board capacitors

Ah, those aren’t electrolytic caps. They’re Sanyo OS-CON caps which are solid polymer and won’t leak/are very unlikely to fail. Still good to have the values just in case but the chance of one of those failing is next to none.

[High Score Challenge 02] new batch: Mouse Stampede 2.0, Crystal Quest 2.2, Crab Attack II

It isn’t any sort of playback issues, it’s about the thing itself. Playing an 80s game on a modern computer is just so much less fun for me than playing it on hardware from the time.

[High Score Challenge 02] new batch: Mouse Stampede 2.0, Crystal Quest 2.2, Crab Attack II

I’m fine with whatever games - the biggest thing for me is that whatever games are picked work on newer macs running system 7. I don’t find playing on an emulator fun, and so games that won’t run on anything other than a Plus or original Mac running System 5 or something like that don’t appeal...

Web browser for Intel OS X

Agreed rjkucia, it is a great name. Love seeing more projects like this! FF Legacy was already a thing, but I think I'll be giving this a go as the existing options are a bit wonky, and the older UI this one uses should run a lot smoother on old systems. Excellent. I do wonder if there's ever a...
